    Hello there,

We need some advice ! Tonight at tea time our utility/kitchen filled with an extremely strong smell of burning rubber and some white smoke. Looking around we realized that it came from the washing machine. The machine was on and mid-cycle, and the smell came from it.

    Few questions:

    1. WHY was the machine on? There was smoke in the kitchen and an incredible smell of burning rubber: how come the machine did not somehow switch itself off or at least throw an error code? I find it disturbing to think that the machine could catch fire ??

    2. WHAT can it be? Looking on the internet it seems most likely culprit the belt ?

    3. HOW that this fault develop? We are not heavy users, but we must use machine at least 4-5 times at the weekend, when we are most at home.

    3. WILL this be covered under the amazing 10 years ISE10 warranty?

    Thanks !

First thing to do is to understand why there is any fault and what caused it.

However, smoke is not fire and if it was the belt as you’ve read online wherever it’s normally caused by the drum being jammed by something trapped between the inner and outer drums.

But, that’s not a fire at all, just the belt smoking away due to friction.

If the fault is due to electrical or mechanical failure then yes, it would be covered by warranty.

To start with though the machine would need to be looked at to determine what the problem is and what the cause it. Without that information it’s really not possible to offer much more advice.

    It turned on by itself?

Hi Joe: I don’t think that Martin was trying to be clever, that’s not his style. I think he read your original post & it appeared from a quick read of your 1st question that you were asking why the machine was on. It was’nt until I went back & read what you were saying a 2nd time myself that I realised what you were saying.
