Hi, our Zanussi ZWF1430W is filling and draining but will not spin or even advance to the wash stage of the cycle having filled. Error code E52 is displaying and I have booked a qualified engineer for Thursday morning this week. Discussion with him suggests it may be a motor brush related problem and I believe if that’s the case then replacing the motor brushes would be within my scope. Can you help with some advice on the method of removing the outer casing in order to access the motor please?
Type no: P6848649 Prod No: 91451723100 Serial No: 51100249. Thanks, TC

If you can’t work out how to get to the part needing replacement then perhaps you should go with the engineer repair.
Hint. Theres a flap on the bottom of the appliance that allows access to motor which is mounted on bottom of tub at rear. Power off if working on any electrical appliance of course.

Seamy, many thanks for the speedy reply and fair comment about leaving it to the Pro. But…having just tipped the machine on an angle I’ve now got sight of the motor and think I’ve also found the problem; One of the two securing screws on one of the brush housings had obviously vibrated loose and fallen out. That brush had then lost contact with the armature which would explain why the fault was intermittent before it finally packed up. Happily I’ve found the missing screw in the bottom of the machine and I’m just in the process of reassembling. Anything else I ought to check/do before reconnecting? TC

Clean any carbon dust from end of motor with a dry paint brush, clean up motor armature (where brushes run on) with a really fine emery paper, check it for burn’t or raised segments.
