ParticipantCan anyone tell me what changing the bearings on this washing machine entails? It is the first one I have come across, though I have heard some stories about what a pain they are. I see on the Bosch website that a bearing kit available, but apparently the drum is difficult to split without causing some damage. I’m guessing that the inclusion of several bolts in the kit means that the possible damage is of no great consequence, as the bolts will overcome the problem. It looks as if the bolts are fitted in a similar way to the old split cabinet Zanussi’s. Is the drum support likely to be damaged? It is in the very early stages of wear, so I would normally guess that it would be ok. Any help before I tackle it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. Steve.

Not complicated at all. Top and front come off. Disconnect everything as normal including suspension legs. Drum out. The tub has some lugs around it which needs removing. I just knock them off with a cold chisel but you could cut them off with a dremel etc. The screws that come with the kit just slot into the spare holes when you put the tub back together. Never had to change a drum support on one but you will need to check it when you have it out. Dave

Not quite accurate . This model doesn’t have the tabs on the rear tub . It has screws going in from both sides to hold the two halves together. It may also have the full pulley on the rear so you will probably need a 24mm socket. Its also recommended to tighten to 75nm of torque on refitting .
As an aside , we never replace bearings separately , only full rear tubs and if you do this remember that the heater is sited in the rear tub and that you will need to swap over the heater bracket.

Apologies….just saw the part about the extra screws with the bearing set and thought it was a different washer.

Thanks for that Paul. Yes it does have the full pulley, so I will take my torque wrench! I had heard of this problem which is why I asked. No harm done Dave, these things happen. I will check out the drum rear half. Cheers. Steve.
