ParticipantHi All
Can the bearings be replaced on this machine ?
I looked on espares and there is no kit listed ??
I have read about plastic drums and these can not be replaced ???
Is there a list of models etc that can be repaired etc ??
Thanks

Do you have a pump filter at the bottom behind the plastic kickstrip at the front? If there is a pump filter then you have a sealed drum.

Hi
I can post a pic if that helps ?
What is a ‘sealed drum’ and how does this effect bearing replacement on washing machine ??
Thanks

No help at all,This machine has both drum types fitted, just prise off the white plastic kick strip that runs along the bottom at the front.
If there is a red. plastic disc to the right it has a screwed drum, if there is a black or white plastic pump filter that can be unscrewed then it has the welded drum which has to be changed as a complete unit.

Looking at it from the back Whitch side does the drain hose come out of left or right ?
Looking from the back, left is welded tank and right is screwed tank.

Either way you are in for some considerable expense. Even if it has the screwed drum it could then have either the 30mm or 35 mm shaft and bearings.
A bearing change on these is not really a simple DIY job and if it has been making a noise for some time it could end up being almost expensive as having the drum replaced on the welded drum assembly. 🙁

I visited one of the same machine on the other day and the cost of repair is nearly as much as replacing the machine regardless of age.
Don’t know if you have registered the machine to take advantage of free five years parts, if the machine is under 5 years old then it might be worth phoning Hotpoint. Their call out fee is pricey but still cheaper than replace the machine.

Just remember that when you think you are phoning the Indesit Company you are actually phoning Domestic & General whose sole aim is to sell you a service contract. If you stand your ground and resist the hard sell you should get the repair done for around £120. Unless you feel the need you should refuse to pay an extra £60 for a service contract plus the extras such as drum cleaners that you may not actually need. They will try and tell you you are in a hard water area even if that is not the case.
