Hello, I have a Miele G527 dishwasher. It’s quite old, over 20 years and works very well. Unfortunately halfway through the cycle (the exact point in the cycle varies) it trips the power. If I reset the power it trips again, but if I leave it off for a while and then turn it on again, it happily finishes the cycle.

This seems to me that something is overheating and probably a capacitor.

What should I do? Is there likely to be one culprit that needs replacing, or is it going to be full of them and if it’s doing that is it finally time for a new dishwasher?

I’d rather fix it and keep it of course…

BTW, anyone have a manual for this machine?!

Rules say we can’t give manuals to general public, anyhow they are like hens teeth. Where did the assumption “probably a capacitor” come from? Would rather take a punt at the heater being open circuit or down to earth.
To be honest after 20 years service it owes you nothing, perhaps you owe it to have it inspected by a service engineer & to see whats causing the problem & hopefully fixing it & keeping this marvellous machine going on.

The ‘probably a capacitor’ came from the last two electric things I had that blew fuses needed new capacitors (1 was a water pump and water had leaked on the capacitor). I did have this fixed once before and it was a capacitor that was replaced and I wonder if they used the right one…

I have only had the machine 2 years – bought second hand. I agree it’s marvellous, but I live in rural Tasmania and taking it to a Miele technician will be a bit of a chore (if we have one somewhere). A clue what to look for would be great, but otherwise I’ll make a plan to get it to town.

The clue was provided in the first post, check the heater first.
