ParticipantThis may be something known and I’ve missed it, or something new, but I have a customer who says her Zanussi ZWF 1431W has a fault where the door can be opened during spin, which was just discovered by their 4 year old grandson.
The strange thing is an engineer replaced the door interlock but the fault remained so he cut the plug off and advised the customer Zanussi would replace it (it’s about 7 years old).
Has anyone come across this fault? It’s hard to imagine what would cause the interlock to not lock during spin and cannot be fixed.

Thanks K, it seems strange that it couldn’t be fixed, and it’s on such an old machine, and there’s no safety notice if true.

It’s possible the interlock triac on the PCB has shorted out in such a way that the machine can work as normal as well the door able to open throughout the entire wash programme? Odd in the extreme but possible I should think. What is even more odd is that Zanussi have taken it upon themselves to replace a 7 year old machine. Is this a D&G insurance job Andy? Would be interested to know more and have an up-date from you at some point.
I wonder if Alex can shed any light on this?

Thanks for that Martin. It is indeed a D & G insurance. I was suspecting it might have just been written off because a new interlock didn’t cure it

It’s because the white plastic plate that goes in front of the lock is worn. Depending on the lock, this is sometimes provided with the new lock.

Thanks TheSpinDoctor. I presume the plate is behind the shell, and not the plate that guides the door catch into the interlock. That would explain why a new interlock didn’t fix it and the engineer must have been puzzled.

Youda thought he’d have delved a little deeper, like we all have to when the fault isn’t as obvious as we thought.

There’s a lot of puzzled engineers out there Andy judging by some of the questions they ask on here. 😈
