The above double oven is fitted with a 420760 “filtering jug vapour extractor”.
I’ve not come across one of these before. The fault reported was glass door and oven generally too hot and also that the smell coming from the oven was awful.
To quote the lady “it was an expensive joint of meat, I don’t buy cheap meat so don’t blame the meat.” She wouldn’t even tell me what it was – she was just adamant it wasn’t the meat that caused the smell. ermmm Anyway – the oven’s fine and is not too hot. However I did see this part and had a look on the parts diagrame and saw this filter there.
Nothing in the instructions but is it a consumeable filter that should be replaced resonably regularly?
Thought appreciated.

Not really, it’s a catalytic type air vent that’s all. Cheap enough to replace mind you if you wish. As for the strong smell, I would check the back wall hasn’t been splattered with fat from that joint and/or the owner hasn’t attempted to scrub it clean with anything. That is a stay clean catalytic liner that only needs an hour at 250degs to clean anyway. I take it this isn’t a brand new oven is it? Probably not but brand new ovens can stink on first use…just a thought!
Final thought, worth taking the back wall plate off just to check that a lump of meat or whatever hasn’t lodged on the fan element?

It’s FD 8504 so not new. As in my first post.
The oven is imacculate – the house maid cleaned it before I got there. One of these ladies who won’t let you near there oven until it’s been cleaned to within an inch of it’s life. Not many of them about but makes it a pleasure to work on.
The oven appears to be fine now and has not had any problems since. I did tell her to stop using it with lots, and I mean lots of trays in it and to go easy on the foil around the shelves to allow air circulation. I’m sure this might have been part of the problem(s).
I won’t replace this filter now but will keep it in mind for the future. And I’ll remember about the “chunk of meat on the element.” Thanks for your reply.

Foil wrapped on the shelves a definately no no. She sounds like a customer best avoided. I once had an similar issue, if not identical, donkeys years back with my notorious customer, a Mr John Profumo. Pillock he was mind, claimed his oven smelled ‘obnoxious’ and the cooking smells that came from his oven were so bad it put him off eating. And that he had an identical oven in his ” House in London” that had no such issues. And he also said to me “……being as you purport to be an expert on these things, then surely you should know from the information I have given you what is wrong?” At the time I felt like saying……”….did you complain about funny smells when you were sniffing around Christine Keeler then?” ……but my in-built tact got the better of me that day! :clown:

errmm I used to have one of those but it’s been over used and burnt out.
Profumo affair is before my time. I know about it but couldn’t remember when it was so I checked – oh I wasn’t born until shortly after.
Damm – that in-bulit tact is not working :rotfl: :rotfl:
