Bosch Classixx 6 1200 Express – intermittent power loss / indicators off

    Model number: WAE24164GB/30 FD 8909 600086

Machine is owned from new, 4 years old, has had the pleasure of washing our two kids’ clothes from birth – it gets a lot of work. Never any problems till now.

Last week, we ran a wash overnight and in morning found clothes soaking wet (but apparently rinsed).

At the time, didn’t note the state of the control panel (if cycle complete, indicator lights should be on – see notes later). Setting to rinse / spin successfully completed the wash.

Next evening did another load, but machine stopped part way through (before we went to bed) and this time clothes were found to be wet and soapy. The indicators were all off. Turning the programme selector knob to off, then to rinse spin didn’t do anything (no lights).

Turned off at mains, swapped sockets to known good one (to check if socket ok), turned on: nothing. Left off for few minutes, switched on, washer restarted, apparently at same point in cycle (indicator on “rinse” when selector set to normal 40deg). Machine continued for 1 – 2 mins then powered off as before (I didn’t notice any noises / smells, just appeared to switch itself off).

Decided to check plug / fuse as next step: that was fine. Re-applied power which had been off for about half an hour and the machine started again and completed cycle fine.

I did a bit of research on this forum and saw this:

I wanted to post this to see if you’d agree its worth starting with motor brushes. If so, is there a big difference between Bosch and 3rd party alternatives?

    Thanks for reading!

Worn motor brushes wouldn’t cause the power to go off and back on again. Worn brushes wouldn’t allow the machine to complete the cycle as normal once the lights came back on either. I believe we are talking a power supply problem here. The power to the machine still is questionable as if it were an internal failing then the machine wouldn’t resume the programme from where it left off. I don’t doubt that after 4 yrs hard use the brushes must be getting pretty worn by now and at some stage worth checking but I don’t think it the issue here.

By the way….naughty….naughty….don’t go to bed and leave the machine on….dangerously bad practice. Instead find time during your waking hours into keeping an eye on it….just in case! 😉

OK thanks very much Martin. Duly chastened re safety :eeek:

I’ll keep an eye on it and make sure I’ve got my facts straight, but can I make sure I’ve understood you: that if the cycle is continuing from where it left off, there must have been a loss of power to the controller? Presumably that could be outside the machine or internal (PSU or even PCB). Sorry to ask you to repeat yourself 😳

    Thanks again!

I have only ever seen this sort of thing on Indesit widxl range machines and the source of the problem there was the interlock

Exactly, because if the break were internal it would NOT resume from where it left off!

Ok – thanks very much Martin.

And thanks Allsorts. The user manual says that the spin speed indicator lights show error codes, including “close the washing machine door properly”. They should also indicate motor fault for that matter, but it seemed from the link I posted above that they weren’t seeing a fault code indication…

Hi Martin : turned out to be a dodgy double socket. The dishwasher on 2nd socket started playing up too and on testing I found the switches were playing up. Replacing seems to have sorted everything out. Thanks again!
