Had this for 8 good years. Recently the temp control has gone haywire and stuff keeps freezing.(it is the single compartment tall larder fridge with no freezer compartment obviously)

It used to be fine set at 3 but I have had it turned down to 2 to try and stop things freezing. It does switch off if you rotate the dial a bit further.

I suspect it is the thermostat but have no idea where I can get one mail order.

I would appreciate any help or guidance anyone can give me. Thanks in anticipation.

It could be low on gas as i have seen this issue with system problems.

What happens is when its low on gas only the top of the evaporator gets cold and there is not enough in the system for it to reach down to where the stat capillary is located at the bottom of the evaporator to tell it to shut down, what happens then is it runs continually and the top half that does chill freezes and the fridge temp plummets to freezing

Feel how hot the compressor is at the back, its the black thing that looks like a pot, can you hear it all the time ?

I think this “low on gas” is the problem and not the thermostat.

I have pulled it out and checked the compressor. It runs all the time and is hot.

The top part of the fridge is frozen up and it now runs all the time even on minimum temp setting.

Who actually does the regas of fridges in Britain?

Things might be different here in Spain. I have a suspicion that a white goods repair person would subcontract the refill out to an air conditioning repair engineer.

    Wouldn’t surprise me. 😉
