ParticipantI’ve been to this machine which is absolutely pristine, only used about once a week. It had operated it’s flood protection with water in the base. On inspection I found the wash pump seal leaking. Replaced seal kit, tested and when it warmed up found another leak which appears to be coming from the sump gasket. On removing the sump all appears as new, not perished or damaged. Is this a known fault? I’ve done hundreds of Bosch d/ws but never seen a leak from the gasket.
I know customer’s son “had a look” before calling me in but I don’t think the sump screws have touched and the softener unit lock nut was tight.
I’m getting P’d off with weird faults on BSH D/Ws!!February 24, 2013 at 8:17 pm #390856Martin

Not a known fault that I have come across anyway. Unless the tub was not seated correctly? But otherwise leaks in this area are often NOT the gasket but tiny rust holes in the stainless tub.

Are you talking about the motor/sump seal that is doughnut shaped ? I have had a good few leaks on these recently and seems to be , 9 times out of 10 , appliances that are rarely used ! No idea why this might be though ?

Thanks for your input. I did consider the perforation idea as after reseating the gasket it still leaks in the same place. Typically it’s in an almost impossible position to see. If it does prove the case is there a “patch” cure? As I said the machine is immaculate and it would be a shame to write off.

Pinhole in cabinet just by the salt cap. Only found it by putting torch inside while workshop in darkness. What a pain!!
Sealed inside and out with high temp silicone. Any better ideas?
Thanks.March 4, 2013 at 5:58 pm #390860Martin

Thought as much. 😀
Bosch engineers use solder to seal those tiny holes. I find THIS STUFF does a great job! 😉

That stuff works like a dream, allways got a pack in my spares kit. They sell similar stuff under the JML brand in Wilkies as well at about the same price.

if its only one hole just use a stainless steel self tapping screw with some sealant, thats provided the head of the screw will be on a flat surface.

A screw sticking out around the rim of the salt cap would be a rather odd sight I would have thought. Where can you buy tiny s/s self tappers anyway?

hotpoint have them to secure drum lifters when the securing tab has snapped off, and its better than scapping the machine.

Nah! I’ll stick with the metal epoxy as it can be smoothed flat (on both sides I might add) looks good too! Besides it is rare to have just one hole in a tub and they do vary in size so several Hotpoint screws sticking up not an option really. 🙁
