ParticipantOur dishwasher (SGS 57E22GB /73) door has developed an annoying fault. Whenever we try to open it by the handle a plastic lever pops out behind the pull and the door stays shut. We can push this lever back in with care and then the door can be opened. There is a small hole beside it and it’s possible to get a matchstick in to help with retracting the lever but tihs doesn’t keep it permanently stowed away. We’ve been reduced to opening the door by pulling at the sides to avoid having to fiddle with the lever every time we want to use the machine. I’m guessing it is some form of child lock but I can’t find any way of disabling it and there are no helpful documents anywhere. I tried asking Bosch but they were no help at all. Is there a simple fix for this or can I replace a part?
Thanks in advance.February 25, 2013 at 6:54 pm #390975Martin

Didn’t they even suggest that you read page 28 of your own User Instruction Booklet? :rtm:
Here’s a copy of what is on that page……

No they didn’t – but I did and although I followed the instructions that doesn’t stop the lever from popping out. 😕 Is there anything else I can do?

Take the fascia panel off and disable it? 💡

Thanks – I had a feeling that would be it!! I have found a video on Youtube which looks to be essentially the same model and shows how you remove the front panel/fascia but it was to replace a relay (which I have done on a dryer so have no fears about delving inside appliances!). As a result there are no shots of the locking mechanism that I can refer to. Could you tell me please where this is located – is it integral to the plastic fascia or the metal sub-assembly that the plastic part clips to? Also could you tell me the method to disable the lock – is it basically what the illustration is showing?

Integral to plastic fascia.

Yes!

Great thanks – sorry to be slow but once the fascia is it just a question of following the illustrations or is there another procedure I need to follow to ensure that this pesky lever stays out of the way? (e.g. do I need to remove anything from the plastic fascia to access the lever?)

It is a major dismantle to access for sure so a lot of self-initiative required. Blow by blow instructions not possible though with care and application most would find the way easily enough. All the best!
