ParticipantThe kettle has just died so we are having to resort to using a saucepan.
Can anyone advise on some kettles worth considering. Main requirements are Stainless steel and cordless.
The old one was a Dualit jug kettle. I did consider getting another but looking at reviews I’m not so sure now, it seems that they have a tendency to leak, which is something the other half complained about on more than one occasion. I just told her she was a messy pourer and increased the insurance premiums!
The Dualit 1.7l dome kettle might be an option but again there are a few reviews that raise questions about reliability.I’d appreciate any suggestions as boiling a saucepan of water takes forever.

There is also the other option to a kettle and that’s a instant hot water tap which goes onto your sink.
They supply instant hot water using a lever.. They are a couple of hundred but we wouldn’t go back to a kettle unless I had to after using one for 2 yrs plus..I even put one into the office.

A couple of hundred? What make is that Bryan?
The ones I’ve seen are around £800 retail.February 25, 2013 at 10:18 pm #390999kwatt

In Sink Erator.
I got one a couple of years back when I did the kitchen and I’d recommend one as well. PITA if they leak though.

I’ve been looking at the qooker brand, but so expensive.

Indesit, AEG, Bosch, Uncle Tom Cobbly… they’re all at that now!
The In Sink one is reasonably priced but, the tanks have a habit of leaking on occasion and all you can do is replace it.
The Franke one I’m unfamiliar with but, given that it seems twice the price of the In Sink one I’d expect a higher quality. Saying that, Franke stuff is usually pretty sound. And, I like that it doesn’t mean two taps.
No idea about the Qooker one.

I bet those instant tap thingys fur up pretty quickly down here though. The amount of tea we drink then no amount of water filters will stop scaling up pretty quickly I would have thought? Couldn’t use it via the water softener either as it has to be mains fed I suppose? I think I’ll stick with a jug kettle, easier to install, 400{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} cheaper and easily binned every 10 years or so when it goes pop!

They’ve got a filter in or on them Martin that takes that out.

Thanks Martin,
I will check out the Breville.I did look at the instant water heaters that go on the worktop but not keen as reviews suggest they don’t get hot enough (boiling) for a descent cuppa, I assume the type being discussed here do supply ‘boiling’ water.
I am thinking of doing my kitchen in the not too distant future and will consider the instant hot water tap but for now want to stick to a kettle.February 26, 2013 at 9:15 am #391007DrDill

We use a franke minerva everyday, makes great tea etc, it is boiling!
Fact is that you only buy one for convenience, not if you want to save money
