ParticipantOur Bush dishwasher made and sold by Argos 30 months ago developed a fault whereby the rollers carrying the top basket came off rendering top part of machine inoperable.
Argos as a policy do not supply spares for this machine after the 12 month warranty has expired, and these spares are not available anywhere else.
Under the sale of goods act 1979 goods must be fit for purpose and of durable quality.
The law also states that I have six years from date of purchase
to claim damages for faulty goods.
Had Argos indicated at time of purchase no spares would be available after 12 months, we would not have purchased, nor would anyone else.Barrie60

Argos don’t make anything, it’s a cheap Chinese import.
You are not fully understanding the sale of goods act and the ‘six year’ part of it. 😉

Several useful articles HERE that ‘may’ enlighten you. 😉

Hi Barrie,
It is an area that government are looking at and I have conversations about on a fairly regular basis. There is a specific article on the subject here: http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/buyi … e-law.html
In essence there is no requirement in law to have a spare part available for any set period. There are a number of reasons for this, some of them are actually valid but the carte blanche nature with which some companies operate in this respect is, will we say, disappointing at best.
You’ve no chance under the SoGA or with the six year rule as neither are a test of durability beyond a basic level and, unless a solicitor can correct my understanding, there is no mention of having to have spares available in either.
The six year thing is if there was a fault or contract problem from new, which you would have to prove. As the dishwasher has been working for going on three years that will not apply I shouldn’t think and, even if it did, it’d likely cost you more to prove and fight (with little to no chance of winning) than to just let it go.
I know that’s not what you wanted to hear but, it is what it is.

Are you sure? There are a number of suppliers of Bush spares I think you will find. What is the model number of your dishwasher? Specifically, what parts are you seeking for it?

Err, top basket wheels Martin. 😉February 26, 2013 at 4:03 pm #391035Martin

I appreciate the guy mentioned “rollers” but if we are to seek out spares I thought I would ask for more info. Who knows but with it being a Bush then any amout of different parts could have broken or fallen off and need replacing, especially so given its extreme age. 😉

Well a quick Google for Bush WPQ8-9269 dishwashers brings up a total blank for basket wheels, even the couple of sites that list spares for these have a big fat zero for the wheels.
Wonder who actually made it and if it might be possible to cross reference the wheels?

It is almost certainly going to be a MIDEA unit. If we can confirm the model number I can get the part numbers.
MIDEA will have mass produced it for many badges so I would imagine spares will be available somewhere.
I still don’t understand the OPs point. His statement is not correct and he asks no question for us to answer.

I suspect that the OP was a bit miffed and quite probably angry with Argos over their attitude and was wanting to check out if it was right or not.
