    Hi,
Our beloved Zanusi WD1012 is struggling. Sounds and feels like a bearing problem. Noisy at the end of the spin cycle and play back and forth in the inner drum.

Does anyone know how difficult/labour intensive it is to have the bearings changed on this model by an engineer?

We have to decide whether it is worth it. My heart says yes but does anyone know the likely cost of parts and labour? Plus whether there are lots of other things likely to go wrong. By the way we had problems with the dryer early in its life and have not used that for 20 years!

We called our local shop and they suggested cost would be £150 to £200 and the machine would have to be taken away.

    Thanks

    Daylight robbery!

Can be done on site in no more than an hour and the only parts required are THESE. 😀

For someone in your area that can do that for you look HERE 😀

Ive got to ask why an engineer would second guess another engineer without seeing an appliance ? 25 year old I would expext 2nd bearing failure damage to drum shaft if shaft damage and replacement required could you really do on site in an hour? Is150 a rip off? Is a 25 year old machine worth spending money on ? Do you really givevadvice worth listening to? Mmmmm id say noooo

On a bearing spider if I remember right. if bearings have collapesed would like to see full
and correct removal in an hour, inspection and or replacement of drum spider. on removing enamel tub and front plate and Inspecting for corrosion of tub and tub front which was common 15 years plus ago!!! I personally feel 150 for a qoute the guy has been fair he hasnt done the job hes quoted probably from experience .

What if it is just the bearings that need replacing Lotusray? You would be wrong and Martin would be right!
I did my mothers bearings on a zanussi. Cant remember the model but it was the drop down door model. She bought that in 1981 and i repaced bearings in 2007, just the bearings, however it took 2 hours to do, ……….. Only because i had my tea during the repair, mothers eh!

The Zanussi WD1012 was one of the “Washcraft” range from 1981 to 1990. I was the Zanussi agent throughout all that period (and beyond) and practically the only make I ever repaired.

The drum bearings and seals are held in a cast iron “Spider” and with the 3 outer bolts removed, and the 3 inner slacked it was a keyhole fit and a simple repair. 20 to 30 minutes average time, so max without any prior experience say 1 hour.

I was replacing bearings on that range until they finally became extinct, and in all that time and the hundreds I must have fixed I doubt if I had to replace the drum or spider more than 10 occasions.

That aside though, most parts are now obsolete on that dear old thing. Motor/Clutch Timer, Tub and many hoses no longer available.

I cannot imagine what MarkF would possibly make of the outburst from ‘lotusray’ and him being a trade member even more surprising. That aside and, thanks to my other trade colleagues additional comments, MarkF can now have good reason into knowing his beloved machine can easliy be fixed. 😀

    Hi MarkF,

I also used to work for the repair agents of this appliance.

Doing the job properly, fitting cross piece, bearings and seals is well worth 150. Not a rip off price in my opinion.

Get it fixed would be my advice after all 150 won’t buy you a decent machine.

Hey Bose…… It’s the old Washcraft series machine…..Matey! Built like a brick outhouse with cast iron bearing spigot…..it will only need a bearing kit…..get real! 😉
