ParticipantH all, wondering if someone has any ideas on this problem.
I repair electronic modules for a living (self employed) such as power supply units for TV’s etc so quite familiar with high voltages , safety etc but this is the first Tumble drier i have had a look at. Wife says it isn’t heating up enough & after removing the back & vacuuming it out i measured each individual heater coil (there’s 4)& they each read about 20 ohms so they seem ok. I noticed that nothing happens heat wise until about the 35-40 minute setting on the front panel, first question is this normal ?
After this time the bottom 2 coils kick in however i notice 1 coil is glowing much hotter than the other (even though resistances are the same) so 2nd question is has anyone noticed this before & is this normal. turning the timer up kicks in the other pair of coils & again 1 seems much hotter than the other. Both cut-outs obviously read fine or else i wouldn’t get any heat so just wondering if the heater coils really are ok even though they read fine resistance wise. I don’t want to spend £50 odd quid on a resistor pack just to have the same issues so thought someone on here might have experience of these heater coils.
Thanks in advance
Graham

If both heat it is fine. (There’s only 2 by the way) they work in parallel and switched high heat or low heat. Both coils have the same resistance though one furthest from the fan will always glow first when not covered fully by the back panel.
The timer switches the heat off only at the last 10 minutes of the cycle. ( normally indicated as a hashed area on the timer dial). 😀

Hi Martin, thank you for your reply
I have rechecked the setting of the front panel timer & nothing happens until it is turned to 30 minutes ( stone cold until then)so am i looking at changing teh timer or coudl something else cause that to happen. Also is that unit just a timer or are there any other functions (temperature related perhaps) that it performs.
I know the heating elements are switched in according to low or high heat but on this model there are definitely 4 heater coils or should i say 2 pairs of coils. In each pair of coils the 2 coils are wired in series giving approx 40ohms toal rsistance with the Orange feed from the cutout splitting between the high & low pairs as required.
Just tried it again now its all boxed back up & it’s definitely not heating up enough, any more ideas where to check ? Lint filter & condenser pack get washed out horoughly with the hose regularly.

The main timer does sound like a caution for sure. Also check the hi-low switch AND the reversing timer in the base!

Thanks Martin, am i right in thinking that:
A) The main timer is just a timer, no other functions ?If so & it just has a delay in switching in the heaters how would that affect the low heat , wouldn’t it still heat as normal but at a wrong setting.
B) The drum does reverse in operation so i assume that the reversing timer can be discounterd ?
c)Does the high/low switch just cut the 2 heater coils in or out together or is it more complicted than that.
Cheers

…..and heat on/off switch too!

…….switches heat off during short reversing period.

……..exactly as you surmise but via the timer I think you’ll find.
