ParticipantTop oven won’t heat to above 120C. Temperature light for stat doesn’t go out if try to get above this.
Tried talking to Hotpoint who said they no longer give technical help – oh for the old days! Can’t find a circuit diagram or exploded parts view.
Thermostat working (controls at lower temps), though my wife reports slow to get to temperature (the oven, not me ….)
Checked temp with oven thermometer and agrees with stat dial when controlling.
Grill elements work on full and half.
Both base and roof of top oven seem to get hot to the touch. Can only think it must be an element, but which? I’m guessing that the grill elements are the source of roof heat for the top oven, but they don’t glow with the oven on, so maybe there’s a separate top element instead – can anyone advise?
Base element from the spares pictures I’ve seen seems to be a single simple element, so as the base of the oven gets hot, my little mind thinks that must be working!
Any help or advice gratefully received so that I can order the correct spare. ThanksMarch 18, 2013 at 10:47 pm #391876Partswizard
ParticipantRe: Hotpoint EW82S Top Oven Problem – stat or door seal issu
This is unlikely to be an element as they either work or they don’t. Even if one has gone the others will still bring the oven up to temperature it will just take longer. I think this is a problem with the thermostat regulator – you probably need anew one, try
Otherwise it could be your door seal letting heat out?
Hope this helps.

Hi
Switch the oven on for a minute or so with the trays ect removed, get a sponge or cloth onto the base of the oven and see if it heats and evaporates this is the most common element to fail, you an feel the heat from the top element by just putting your hand in the middle of the oven.
If the water doesn’t evaporate or heat then it’ll be the base element or if the top one doesn’t then it’s the. Oven/grill element.

Thanks for your advice the two who responded. It’s not the stat regulator as light stays on whilst heating and I’ve checked temp with a thermometer. I do think it must be the lower element as although base gets warm in a few ‘hot spots’ which seems surprising, doesn’t get properly hot to burn your fingers. Can feel plenty of heat from the top though. Now all I need to fathom out is how difficult to fit new base element!
