ParticipantDear all, I have a Diplomat APM6842 integrated fridge freezer.
In the last 6 months, each time I have gone away on holiday for 2 weeks, I have returned to find that my freezer compartments have automatically defrosted and all my food is thawed out and ruined. There is no ice on the metal elements at all just water from the ice collected in the drawers. This has happened 3 time to me now in the last 6 months, on each time I have been away for 2 weeks and returned to the same scenario.
Can anyone offer some advice as go why this is happening , I know there are no power cuts as all my clocks and timers still are correct and I have asked the neighbours and they have told me there have been no power cuts.
What is causing this to happen?
Please help me stop the mess.
Many thanks.

Once I clean it all out it carries on as normal, it starts to freeze as it should do. I just don’t know why it self defrosts.
Looks like no one knows why!
Please help.

Not got a clue as, if there was a component fault then it would happen all the time and not just when you are away.
Unless you have a bad case of mischievous gremlins as there’s no technical reason that I can think of that would or could cause that.

If the weather is cold when you are away it is possible it may be a low ambient fault
( cold room ) as I do not expect the heating is on.In the fridge compartment next to the thermostat you have a switch for low ambient.
Only use this if it is cold when you are away you will know it is on as the switch glows orange.
The switch operates a heater on the back panel in the fridge but it will make the fridge warm near the bottom.
If you use the switch when the weather is warm this can cause problems on this model and you should only use it if the temperature drops below 10 degrees centigrade or you expect cold weather when you are away.

Hi there Bob, it would appear that the switch was on constantly,I have now switched it off. I was told that it was cold ech time I was away so I am not sure if it made a difference or not or if the switch is broken. I will see what happens now I have switched it off. Any more help would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

If the heater switch was on then the heater will be faulty.
You can test by turning on the switch when the compressor has stopped.
After about 10 minutes the back panel in the fridge near the bottom should be warm.
If it is not warm then the heater will be faulty but cannot be replaced.
If you go away in the cold weather turn the temperature to maximum this may help.
If not try to leave your food with a friend.
