ModeratorSMV53A00GB/01 built in dishwasher, the door will not latch.
It’s the first time I have seen one of this type with the small notch in the top of the door and the latch built into the top of the cabinet.
Tried to flick the small latch back into position as you can with the old, door mounted latch but couldn’t budge it and didn’t want to force it.
There is a floppy, grey plastic tab sticking out above the latch but I can find no mention of what this does in the user manual. It looks to be connected to the latch in some way but I really have no idea what it does.
I would have dragged the machine out but due to the brain dead kitchen fitter who has routed the main waste pipe from the sink right under the middle of the dishwasher. I walked away, muttering under my breath about how anyone can be so stupid. :rolls:
Are there any known issues with the mechanism, what does the grey tab do?

It’s a child lock Jim. Push the tab right the way it to deactivate.

If you need a new child lock let me know as I’ve got a few kicking about which I didnt fit to new installs.

Thanks folks, just downloaded the manual and found out what it is, it strikes me as rather stupid to put the child lock instructions on the back of the envelope the child lock comes in and not in the user manual. :rolls:
Does this prevent the machine from operating or would it just prevent the door from locking?
Thanks for the offer Tim, will see if I can get her to reset it over the phone first.

When activated prevents door from opening. The hall sensor (magnet switch) acts as a door switch and stops machine when door opened.

So, would that explain why the door will not now close, it looks like the latch is in the closed position, how is it activated?
I’m just guessing now but does it only prevent the door from being opened whilst the machine is running????

I’m thinking it must have been forced open? Activated by lifting the lever up and push to the right.

Yes.

Hmmm, it sounds as though it might have to be switched on to reset if it has been forced open???
Tim, I don’t suppose any of the child lock kits you have are still in the original envelope with the instructions on it?

I loved the plumbing under the machine by the way…..master stroke of ingenuity.

Apparently this punter has now pushed the grey tab right back into the machine. :rolls:
Looks like I will have to await the return of the kitchen fitter to get at it. 😥

Found one. I’ll post one to you. The child lock fitting is in pictorial form only, on the plastic bag it comes in.
Are you going to order new switch / catch parts as well as I’m not sure the child lock will be the cure all.March 26, 2013 at 7:02 pm #392791iadom

Yes Tim, as it is going to be a real pain, for someone (not me) to get it out I thought I would go belt n braces at this one. 🙂
