My first fridge repair – a door hinge. I don’t normally do fridges, but the hinge broke while I was at my customer’s house and I offered to sort it out. It’s a built under Bosch KUR15A40GB/64. It’s sealed in by a hard fixed kick board, so no easy access to the back. The mains plug is accessible in the adjacent cupboard, possibly from an extension lead, but there is no earth continuity between the plug and fridge door.

Should the hinge be earthed, or is this part of the fridge cabinet designed to be double insulated?

    Hi

The fridge door is separate from the fridge and dold no electrical components, the bush’s are plastic so in realistic terms there is no continuity between the appliance and door.

Thanks, Bryan. The hinge screw tappings in the fridge front panel are also not earthed, but I guess because the fridge cabinet is basically a lump of plastic moulding and thermal insulation, an earth is not needed?
