ModeratorJust wondering why, if I log on at home I dont see either the DASA logo or the e jobs toolbox, (but do see all other images and avatars etc) yet on both pc’s at work I do? Running identical operating systems and browsers (IE 6) on all.
Wondering what the casual visitor may be seeing or not seeing.

Norton installed on the pc’s Mark ?
Norton internet security and/or anti-virus has some very odd habits as it tries to block ads and other things on some web pages.

Your are right, I have Norton internet seucrity at home while here its only anti virus.
Mind you a lot of people have the same and will be missing those parts of the site.

Yep, they will and a load of other sites will have the same problem.
There is a solution, if you go to the ad blocking module and add UKW to the list of sites, then allow everything, it should be OK.
Alternatively, if you look top right in IE6 you should see the Norton logo below the url box, click on that while you’re on the homepage and uncheck “block ads on this site”, then close IE, open it again and all should be visible.
Norton is very odd in it’s behaviour, I have exactly the same version at home as I do at work yet it blocks different ads on different sites 😕

Good Heavens!
Thanks to Marks observations I realise the same problem I didn’t know I had with ad blocking on this site 😯
Having switched off the block I can now see the logos/ads and that brilliant ‘Mobile Toolbox Avatar’ on repairs@….quite extraordinary 😕

This is Norton internet security 2005(standard not pro) that someone gave me for xmas and it hasnt got any of the features Dave mentioned. The only way to view correctly is to turn it off altogether. I have 2004 Pro on another pc at home and this does have those features but, oddly, displayed correctly anyway.
I really hate having my laptop taken over like this, somehow pop ups and spam are prefferable. 🙁January 16, 2005 at 7:21 pm #123636Martin

It is very interesting you brought this up Mark ‘cos I have a similar Norton set-up (2003 in my case) and when I go into “Norton Internet Security” from “Start” I can then go into “Ad-Blocking” and stuff as Dave mentioned earlier, switch in on/off or whatever 8)
Now, within that option, I can BLOCK Pop-ups and/or ad-blocking. In my case opting just on the Pop-ups allows me to see the wonderments of UKW in its entireity. What then concerns me in this case, and the reason I replied to this post, is that suppose ‘Joe Public’ has got the same Ad-block on his PC/Mac…? then it is likely he will not see the ‘Mobile Toolbox’ that is E-jobs??????? Therefore would’nt it also be a good idea to have the text below that avatar as a ‘Hyperlink’ (eh.Ken???)
Just a thought 😀

Yes Martin, that is the point I was trying to make when bringing up this subject.

OK, now I have managed to turn off the ad blocking feature.

Actually, to be prescise many of the current firwall and AV/IS/PF software blocks such things with varyng degrees of success across most platforms and most browsers as well and, in each case, thre is often different results from what I can see. It would be virtually impossible to code in such a manner as to stop it from happening as Norton reads the code and “guesses” as to what is or is not an advert. All things considered it’s not that intelligent, merely bloody annoying for web developers.
Norton Pro versions allow you to enable or disable ad-blocking as they call it, some OEM versions do, some don’t dependent on feature set. Then you have McAfee and all the rest to consider as well, it really is a PITA.
I switched ad-blocking off on Norton over a year ago as it was blocking legitimate content, as it is in this case.
The reason I hadn’t added a link there was simply as there is a link on the picture to the article and it would have upset my notion of colour balance within the object. But if it’s that bad I’ll add a link later.
