Hi all, just after a little advice.

The bearings have recently collapsed on my hotpoint washer (There is lift in the drum) and I was going to attempt a home repair job but have recently found that hotpoint designed them to be useless and therefore also decided to weld the outer drum so I would need an entire drum at the cost of £170.

That’s a bit out of reach at present so would like to know…on final spin, the washer is banging around like crazy, sounds like there is a hammer banging around inside the drum, not a nice sound to put up with and I’m a little terrified of it as I’m unsure what might happen, hence my arrival here…

Is there any possibility of me losing my life if I continue to use it in the meantime, I’m petrified of the drum coming loose and flying around my house at 1400 rpm (Would be pretty hard to get out the way of and the weight of those things, I imagine it would do a considerable amount of damage) or smashing the glass door panel and the contents flying out and causing an imbalance and throwing the entire washer around the house (Definately RIP time).

Can anyone put my mind at rest and assure me it’s just a noise that wont really do anything or should I cease use right away?

    Thanks in advance…

It sounds as though the spider (the part that is attached to the drum itself and which the shaft protrudes from and goes in to the bearings ). Has broken away from the drum on more Attachment
    Point

I would not continue to use this machine
As during a spin cycle the drum
Could well break away from the spider and do considerable damage ….

Unplug and remove this machine ASAP!
