ParticipantI’ve just taken delivery of a MIELE KDN12823S and have noticed that the small copper pipes around the compressor have some blue residue on them. I’m guessing this is coolant but I’m no expert.
I wouldn’t expect to see a coolant leak so is this something to worry about or is it just a result of transit or manufacture?
Thanks

Or, it could be just normal which I suspect it is.

Yep, looks fairly normal TBH.
You will often see that due tot the colour of copper when it gets heat.

Thanks, I thought the colour may have come from the copper but there was clearly a substance on the surface of the pipe that was sufficient in volume to drip from this pipe, hence my concern about a leak.
It seems to be working fine, if this doesn’t look odd I’ll wipe it off so I can see if it returns.
Thanks

Hi Simon
This is absolutely normal.this is a residue of the flux that is used when brazing the pipework together,It wont drip as its not liquid. It wont cause any problems what so ever.

As as been confirmed normal although on a £700 unit and that brand one would thing they would be a bit tidier than that

I take it you’ve tried to remove it and polish all the joint’s if you do refrigeration.
I suppose they could have also sprayed all the pipework black as well and waxed and polished with turtle wax 😛

I have, and the worst is when there is a run of solder running all the way along underneath a pipe when you want to fit a lockring, when I change a pot or charge a system I always wipe off any excess lock prep from the pipes.
All I’m saying is a bit of pride don’t cost a thing
