ParticipantHi, I have a Hotpoint TCM570P condenser dryer (same as a CTD00) which is gathering water in the back fan chamber, then the back fan sprays the heater element causing it to trip the breaker. I thought I knew just about everything about these dryers but it would seem not.
I have done the obvious stuff, fluff filter is ok, the heat exchanger has been pressure washed to the point where it’s like a brand new one. The drainage gully behind the heat exchanger has been cleaned up good and proper and water poured through to make sure it enters the pump chamber which it is doing fine.
The pump is working as it is sending water into the top container and it seems to be sending as much as you would expect it to from a good heavy load of towels etc. I have always thought it’s all about air flow with these dryers to be honest but this one has me a bit baffled.
One thing I did notice is the impeller on the water pump is an elastic one which must be a late version as I haven’t come across this kind before. Are these so poor that they don’t operate as they should?
The only other thing I have noticed which needs attention is when the dryer is flat cold and it’s just started up, there is a bit of a squeak. It sounds like the pulley on the motor may be ready for replacing or some silicone lube into it, but failing that, it’s operation is normal. Runs for about 90 mins then trips out. 🙁
Any ideas please guys?Thanks,
Rob.

If its building in the heater normally its a blockage or the pump is playing up, you can get a small pool in the older ones but not enough to trip,
However I have found as the heater gets older even after removing the blockage if its been wet they are more likely to trip again with any dampness, fluff and lint builds between the connections and chassis giving an easy earth path when wet. when Iv had one that been wet I normally replace the heater
They have a modified heater cover that has a foam bit and a hole at the bottom to release and evaporate the water away, Iv also seen a lot of guys just remove a bit of the seal at bottom to allow water to pass, mind depending on the floor its not always a good idea
Because its running for a while before it trips id replace the heater and confirm all the water side is correct, also consider the new rear cover / hole option as well
