Hi, wondering if anyone can help in identifying a particular component from a Liebherr ICN 3056 f/f. I’m troubleshooting the unit for a friend. Both fridge and freezer fail to cool.

The attached pic shows the part and I’m surmmising it’s an in-line solenoid operated 2 port valve. It’s in circuit after the drier and has two capillarys entering the sealed unit. Could this part be directing gas one way to fridge and the other to freezer under micro controller?

The part is labelled 240v, but buzzes madly when connected to 240v.

    Thanks for any assistance.

As you have suggested this is a two way refrigerant valve which diverts the refrigerant into either the refrigerator or the freezer. Not sure if this one is pulse operated or not until I talk to Liebherr tomorrow but it would be very unusual for both sections of the unit not to work, as when not energized the valve would direct refrigerant the other way. I would suggest it is more likely that you have a shortage of refrigerant or the compressor is faulty.

Thanks for the reply and info.

Interesting, and makes perfect sense, that when not energised at least one section should cool, as I hard wired the comp to cut out all controls, left unit running, and neither section cooled. Comp motor readings checked out according to data sheet – windings resistance and run current spot on – so guess shortage of refrigerant prime suspect.

Now thinking probably not worth further effort. If lack of gas, will first have to find leak. Then not geared up for R600a – nitrogen purge, long vac down, etc, etc. Guess also there’s the possibility of either a circuit blockage or even damaged comp valves.

Would welcome any further thoughts. Scrapper?

Hello, the valve always supplies the freezer compartment. It has two positions, freezer only, or freezer and fridge.
Therefore, if you’d had the compressor running, then at least the freezer should have cooled.
I’d be checking the liner in the fridge, to see if it was away from the evaporator, indicating an internal leak.

    Cheers.

Thanks for the info and liner tip. Hopefully will revisit the patient this evening and report back. Cheers.

Well took another look this evening and job to know whether fridge evap plate has parted from liner – looks like a major strip down. Press the back of the liner and there is a small amount of give before before it bottoms out against something. Anyway, sadly think this one’s a dead’un.

Any forum rules on offering free spares – thinking mainly unit furniture to any members local.

    Thanks for help.
