ParticipantHi All,
(Apologies up front if the pics are a bit large)
I’ve had this happen a few times, where the freezer builds up with a huge amount of ice. Looks like it may be water run off from the fridge into the freezer perhaps even.
Normally I defrost it once a year to sort it as the fridge at this stage does not perform well at all, almost feeling a little bellow ambient temp inside with draws removed. This is what it looks like:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/duc26ta7ntvwejg/20130420_114727.jpgThis time I unassembled it more as there is ice build up behind the back panel. Was surprised to see this much build up behind it.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jc9rnv62fl3elww/20130420_121629.jpgIts pretty much a solid block of ice in the white tray there. Chances are I was not defrosting fully in the past not knowing about that bit.
Anyone have experience with this fridge model and what may be the cause of this happening?
The freezer seals all look good, no cracks and seem to close and seal fine. The middle drop down door has been tapped up and not in use so no leakage there. (Sealed it due to the hinges both been broken a long time ago.. still need to sort that at some point).
The fridge door seals are closing and sealing ok, has a slight crack on one side only, but doesn’t go all the way through.Any help or advice appreciated.
Thanks… TJ

under the pile if ice there will be a drain that will be blocked. un plug it and leave the door open to defrost then clear the drain that goes thru to the compressor (black pot at the rear of the fridge)you can speed things up a bit with a hairdryer or a steamer to defrost the ice.dont go at it with a knife you might burst the pipework then that will be bye bye fridge. Thanks John, have fully defrosted it now. I poured a bit of water down the hole but it didn’t go the compressor as expected. The one in the fridge area did, down the black tube at the back. What I’ll do it try push a bit of cable thru the one in the freezer and hope it clears whatever is blocking it.
In the compressor drip tray I found a flexible rubber type thing, looks like it attaches to end of a pipe, the one end is kinda flattened. (Sort of like the end of a whoopee cushion outlet.) Not sure if I need to re-attach that to anything?

try an old wire coat hanger to clear the freezer drain

Both holes were cleared, blew down the holes with a pump and could feel the air coming through quite clearly.
However, after all that work, and cleaning it up nicely, it’s been on for over 12 hours and the fridge still doesn’t feel cold. I have a thermometer inside it and its reading 10 degrees which is way to high. Fridge is set to maximum too. 🙁
Any ideas what the problem might be or suggestions on what I can check?

possibly needs gas or a weak compressor 🙁
