My old but normally dependable AEG Lavamat 635 stopped spinning adequately; i.e. rather slow at lower speed option, and not at all on higher speed option. I assumed this meant I needed to replace the motor brushes, which I ordered. However, when I went to replace the old brushes, they seemed okay. The commuter seemed okay as well, although I have given both a good clean.
I did however note that wires not only were connected to the brushes, but also to an end cap on the motor. When I opened this up, I found something that looked a bit like a carbon bearing inside surrounded by what looked like a needle bearing assembly, which all seemed to fit rather loosely. Are these wires for a sensor, or are they another kind of brush fitting?
What is this end part called, and what is it for?
What else might be causing the problem with the spin speed?
