    Hi

My washine machine will work fine when empty but when I put clothes in it, it seems to start fine, water starts to fill, but then it all stops and the door remains locked. Also the start button when pressed got pushed into the machine (I have replaced this). Any ideas why the machine works fine when empty but not when there is any clothes in it?? :rolls:

    Thanks for any advice.

Worn brushes or stretched belt maybe?

Are these things I could check/change myself? Where would I find these to check in the machine? Thanks for your help.

Yes very easy to check these yourself, have a look at the rear of the machine, there may be a panel that unscrews and will give you access to both the belt and motor.

Check the belt is not overly stretched by pushing it inwards from one side you should be able to move it roughly a quarter of an inch or so, if its a lot more than this it needs repalacing

As for e motor brushes, you will need to remove the belt, pull out any connectors attached to the motor (taking note of which way they are fitted) then undo any bolts that are holding the motor on to the outer plastic drum..then its a matter of pulling the motor off its plastic mounting pegs..

Hold the motor firmly when trying to remove as it is a heavy item when it suddenly comes off its mounts..

When its free from the machine you can then remove the brushes from the motor and check for wear. When new brushes are around 3cm long anything less than 1cm they need changing

Power off before you attempt any work on the machine!
