ParticipantNot too sure where this should go.
It is regarding the Qualtex Bosch heater part number:- QUAHTR72
I tried to fit one of these yesterday – 25th April 2013 and always give each one a good tug to make sure it will not come out, well this one did!
Having remembered an instance some years ago where an engineer had posted on UK Whitegoods Forum, that he had fitted one of these heaters, and it had popped out soon after.
I have emailed Qualtex and this is the reply from Philip Hulme Managing DirectorβI know about this one and have a genuine made by Irca on my desk
We will not be buying anymore from the current supplier and will be switching asap
When the new stock is in we will send a flyer to the tradeβ

Ok: So if as he admits they already know about the problem, why are they still supplying them to the trade ? Did he mention anything about supplying you with a quality repalcement ?

This problem came to light back in 2007 when CDSL were issuing this type of heater. In 2009 Masterpart were aware of the problem then, after receiving a complaint from myself and others, investigated the problem and withdrew their own stock until the problem was resolved with their suppliers. Qualtex HTR72’s are a known problem and likely sourced from the same suppliers as both Connect and Masterpart?
Several issues relating to pattern heaters are dealt at length in the thread “Pattern Heaters : a cautionary tale” where I have fallen victim on more than one occasion with these rubbish pattern heaters. After the last instance of flood damage claims against me I no longer fit the darn things.
Pattern suppliers should be brought to account, though back in 2007 I failed miserably getting CDSL to admit blame. Only by highlighting your collective concerns are they ever likely to take notice. If we all shout loud enough the immortal words ” PATTERN HEATERS ARE JUNK, DON’T FIT THEM…!” maybe, just maybe they may take action?

IIRC Martins problem was down to there being no shoulder on the replacement heater where the original Bosch did. The Qualtex patten ones i’ve used do have a shoulder so Im not sure what the problem is with them? Touch wood I’ve not had any issues with them.
Saying that as a rule I apply deebor & fit a retaining bracket on them to be on the safe side.May 15, 2013 at 4:28 pm #394919Martin

Why, a lot of them are just re-bagged genuine ones?
Or, decent enough.
Bad ones are a rarity IME.

We so very much appreciate your invaluable input regarding this pattern Bosch heater issue Ken. Your wise words so reassuring to many I’m sure but not in this case. The elements aren’t “rebagged” at all. CDSL and Masterpart got it completely wrong by making ‘pattern equivalents with the incorrect rubber grommet and without thermal fuses. The Qualtex one has a grommet that is fractionally smaller than the genuine Bosch and if you over tighten just slightly the ruddy thing pops out..!
They are cheap, sub-standard and not a patch on the genuine replacement parts. Guys that continue to purchase and fit them are asking for trouble from flooded kitchen claims and all that trauma they can bring upon themselves. Meanwhile the pattern manufacturers and suppliers have a duty to ensure their product comes up to spec. And if they don’t should immediately remove them from their shelves and advise their customers of the issues that warranted this action.

this post seem to exist in 2 forums and my reply to Bernie in the other one was
cant knock the reply it seems they are on top of the problem. My only complaint is why were they still selling a faulty component leaving their customers open to insurance claims from flood damages. These should have been withdrawn with immediate effect and a note put on the website warning engineers to the potential problem
i had the same problem with htr61. the element was too long so it did not lock in and flooded a customers kitchen. have used gen ever since as i cannot be sure if the problem has been fixed
so the moral of this is
“Qualtex tell us when there is a problem and tell us when you have sorted it”that way we all will have more trust in qualtex spares
