Hi all, sorry if this is in the wrong thread I couldn’t gain access to the trade section.

I’ve been looking into becoming a domestic appliance engineer and was wondering how engineer maintain a van stock.. Surely there’s so many different makes and models and a vast variety of parts how can it be possible to get a high rate of first time fixes?

I’m basically just after all the information I can get regarding setting up as an appliance engineer.

    Thank you.

    Re: Appliance engineer questions?

After 25 years of being an engineer and £8000 worth of van stock even I find it hard to carry everything, if I go to a service call which I need a spare for and I don’t carry it then I will order 2 one for the customer and one for van stock, normally must of us can get a spare in next working day if ordered by 4, so it’s not as bad these days, so let the suppliers carry it no us..

    .

That’s because it is for people in the trade. 😉

Have you any formal training in domestic appliance repair?

    Re: Appliance engineer questions?

    Very helpful thank you!

Commercially yes, city and guilds refrigeration engineer and just recently started domestically on washing machines (having to do some research on here for most).

I prefer the job as I regard myself a people person. I understand they do a 10 day in Hull which is recommended but I’m out of work hence the new work direction so finances are limited.

    Thanks again,

Contact site admin with your full details/qualifications and I think there is a good chance they will give you trade access.

There is a link on the home page. 😉
