ParticipantHi,
I was given a job to replace the bearings on the Bosch washer – WFO2467GB, ordered the parts to collect tomorrow to fit.
Seeing that I have not done it before, as luck would have happened, I happen to have a BER Bosch washer (WFL2450GB) in the back of my van of similar spec and the parts are both the same. So I thought I have a play on it to see how long it would take me and how easy. So far so good, until I came to split the tub, how on earth can I split it with all those clips?
Do I need to cut the clips off? It looks like the only way to do it by sawing it off.
There are 16 holes and I have nine screws, do I need to buy extra screws?

Yes you cut off all the clips, and the new kit usually comes with extra screws to hold it all nicely together, also make sure you replace the tub seal… Did one recently for a friend and had no leaks whatsoever…..
Though i believe there js a post on here somewhere regarding someone who used a load of steak knives to prise each clip open!!

I ordered the bearings and seal kit so nothing about the screws. Hopefully it’s in the pack otherwise I’ve kept the old screws from the BER Bosch.
I had a play on it and yes, you are right Martin that I had to cut off the clips.

have to ask how you cut off the tabs? Its not as easy as it sounds as there is no room for a hacksaw and the plastic is too thick for stanley knifes.May 23, 2013 at 4:50 pm #395245Allsorts

You could use a grinder or a hotknife if you are careful

A very sharp wood chisel did the job for me!

I used like a hacksaw, it was a very short fine toothed saw with the rounded bit trimmed off to make a pointed edge like stanley knife. Saw it half way then use a wide screwdriver to snap it off.

The leaflet that came with the bearings, seal, gasket and screws showed a picture of some sort of sharp shears more like a miniature version of sheep shearers from the Victorians times. I couldn’t work out what kind of tool was that and let alone what is called. It was the second set of bearings I have changed over the last two days and the bulk of the time took was trimming off the clips.
Be careful on where you put the screws back in as the leaflet appears to show that you put the screws in on the heater opening side (literally on the front), I learnt that it does not work and turned it over with the front on to the base and screw it from the rear toward the front. It worked better and closed up well. Again I managed to waste time because of the misleading images on the leaflet supplied by Bosch.

is that the voice of experience Martin or just a suggestion? Those cutting discs dont like the plastic when it melts. I broke about 5 discs centres out using one of these and gave up when I ran out of discs. Used my air cutter back at the workshop instead but one slip and your are through the tub.
I too wondered about the giant pair of cutters shown on the tech sheet. My largest side cutters barely scratched the surface of what is very thick and tough plastic.
If anyone needs a rear tub cw bearings part number: 236013 I have one going cheap to clear.May 25, 2013 at 4:35 pm #395253Allsorts

If you are using the Dremmel, make sure it is on a low speed so that it cuts the plastic and doesn’t melt it

Just for 2 each side of the cabinet where access prevents welding it with hammer and wood chisel. (You can’t beat the hammer & wood chisel technique) Side cutters?………a total no no in my experience.

Can I ask why Martin ? It’s the BSH standard method . Could it depend on the cutters used ?
