Generic Thermal Fuse?

My Panasonic MC 468 has suddenly gone dead. Plug, fuse, flex, switch are fine and the motor brushes are serviceable. There’s no ominous smell of cooked windings etc so I suspect the thermal fuse. (Will take it out and test to confirm)

Looking online it seems this part has now been discontinued by Panasonic but it seems a shame to scrap a perfectly good machine for the sake of a fuse.

Would it be possible to source and fit a generic thermal fuse of the appropriate heat range and amperage?

Hi: If you can get to the thermal fuse & find it’s rating then yes you could find a replacement thermal fuse. Try somewhere like: http://www.cpc-farnell.com

    Many thanks

Yes, will give CPC a go – I’ve used them before.

The existing one is within a sleeve in the wiring leading to the motor. I’ll pull it apart and see if there’s a temp value marked.

I may be mistaken, but i believe these are not usually fitted with a thermal fuse.

I think its like the fuse that VAX seems to love fitting to their machines, its a glass type fuse which usually only blows if the motor is drawing to much current Its a glass tube of sorts… Only ever replaced 2 in the last 18 months though!

Hi: If as you say the fuse is , then as in the wiring leading to the motor Muv suggests it’s more likely to be a glass fuse than a thermal fuse.
