KeymasterThe condensation tank at the top of the tumble dryer remains empty while the overflow reservoir fills up: at which stage the “Full Tank” light and beep come on. (I know this because I’ve removed the air cooler and dried out +- 400ml water from the back of the machine!)
An economical repair, do you think?
Product Number: WTL5500GB
Serial Number: 8008 02009January 19, 2005 at 10:25 pm #123982Penguin45
ParticipantIn my experience a blockage in the pump area is far more likely to be the cause of your problem.
This is an extremely complex tumble dryer; I would advise getting professional help.
If the pump IS required it’s about £46 plus the vat.

Thanks Penguin45!
Don’t suppose you know of anyone good in Brighton? The database doesn’t have anyone…

I can recommend Appliance Repairs on 01273 415661 as pretty good with Bosch appliances  We’ve had good reports in the past from someone who recommends them at least.(Don’t know of them personally though)
Do please make note that I believe your problem dryer is simply a flooded pump chamber. And it just needs an expert in to clear the blockage between that chamber and the water tank…Thats all, I’m certain 🙂
Let me know how you get on please 🙂

KeymasterFirst the good news:
He didn’t charge
Now the bad news:
He couldn’t see how to get into the affected area at all and claimed never to have seen anything like this dryer…

Oh dear oh dear! That is terrible and I must say I feel guilty for giving you his phone number if he couldn’t figure it out :con:
OK here is the good news……It is easy to fix (yourself) and I will tell you how ….OK
First of all I need to ask a quick question…..Please drop down the front access panel, and remove the condensor unit (that has the 2 blue latches) Pull that unit out, then put your arm into the cavity, reach to the back and tell me if you feel a puddle of water back there???????????
Don’t do anything else at this stage, just please reply
And its not essential but best to PULL THE PLUG FIRST :plug:

KeymasterYes, Martin – that’s how I came to the conclusion it was a pump fault – water collecting at rear of machine and not transferring to the top tank…. I have groped about with most of my arm in there(!) and can’t feel anything but plastic moulding…

Good!
OK next step …DO PULL THE PLUG ON THE MACHINE FIRST OK :plug:
At the back of the machine you will see a cavity and a black rubber hose, carefully remove that hose from its fixing. Then try to blow up the hose to check if it’s clear (I suspect it will be blocked?)
If the answer it yes  , then take the top panel off the machine (2 ‘Torz’ head type screws hold it on at the back, remove those, slide the top panel backwards to remove). You will then see the other end of that same black hose fitted to a nozzle coupling, attached to the water tank housing. Carefully remove that nozzle with a screwdriver (or whatever…no force required) and check to see if it is clear???
I suspect it’s likely to be blocked and therefore THE PROBLEM  Before refitting that nozzle and after you have refitted the hose at the back, just blow down that hose to make sure it is also clear all the way to the pump chamber 🙂
Refit the nozzle, and the top panel, plug the machine back on and test it out. The panel lights should indicate all is well, it should also rapidly fill up the water tank to a point that after less than 1 minute it will fill up and need emptying. Empty it, turn the machine back on for another minute, empty it again and so on perhaps 3 times in total.
Sorted!!! (Hopefully…If not I’m sure you will comment 😀 )

Hi Martin
I removed lower tube connection, blew, all clear, same for top: put it all together again before I remembered your third step…
😳
Opened it up again, removed top tube connection and blew like hell. Couldn’t feel any resistance though. Had to go to gym so washed and dried gym stuff which has just finished – and there’s +- the expected amount of water in the upper tank!
😆 😆 😆
Thanks Guys!
PS Dave_Conway: In the BN area – we’re BN2.January 25, 2005 at 12:20 am #123992admin

ParticipantResult – well done. Bear in mind that the fluff is still floating about in the bottom, so sooner or later it’ll have to come to pieces as it will get picked up again eventually…………..
