ParticipantHi. I’m looking for a Klixon 15 AM series thermal cut out for a bosch motor and can’t find a supplier in the UK. Was wondering if anyone knows where I can find them.

I hate to the the bearer of bad news but, the chances are you won’t get it.
Bosch will supply the full motor I expect and I can’t recall ever seeing a TOC as a spare for a motor other than many, many years ago for the old Hotpoint GEC motors. Never seen another one.
I suspect the reason most likely will be that, if the TOC pops then the motor has been overheating for some reason and replacing it will probably just lead to another one failing.
Given it is a safety device to prevent overheating and possible fire, by-passing it is not an option IMO.
It is likely a custom job for Bosch hence the reason you cannot find one.

Thank you for your reply kwatt. I’ll give up on following that path.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I came here because I was looking at the same part also.
The part is suppose to ‘close’ automatically once the heating/error condition has passed. However mine stays open at room temperature also.I expected even if there is a problem in the motor which caused it to open, it should close again once the temperature goes back down. Can one really say that the motor is bad because the fuse is definitely broken? Because I tested the stator and rotor windings and they seem to give normal readigns at ohm meter and also tried to see if it will work when I manually close the circuit bypassing the klixon (for testing only) and motor seem to function fine.
I was thinking, isnt it possible that it just wore off in time since it changes temperature during normal operation, therefore small movements occur constantly inside the part which wears it slowly perhaps? This specific part has a very high resistance causing it to change temperature rather quickly. mine was 15AM 21
http://www.sensata.com/download/15am.pdfThere are many 7AM 17AM etc. models but for some reason 15AM seems impossible to find 🙁
Thanks!

to be honest you wont find one. as Ken said there is a similar unit in the hotpoint motor doing a similar job but cannot confirm its temperature rating. best to look for a secondhand motor on ebay or in you case a faulty one as long as the toc is ok

Electrofix, I think I actually found it and well the price is rather reasonable but it is in USA and if I order it the shipping fee was 2-3 times more than the item so…see:

I wont really bother with an old motor because I bet it wont be easy to find the same motor anyway.February 4, 2016 at 3:49 pm #395520Martin

Fascinating read this thread Evran 😕
What you all may have overlooked is that those old style motor end frame/carbon brush ring units (which are obsolete) have been replaced by the new style units using the later coil spring type carbons. Now, on the old units that TOC you refer to was embedded on the brush ring however the new style does not have a TOC fitted. 😉

Hi Martin,
How is it going? I have to say, this is the best forum when it comes to whitegoods 🙂 It is not that I came here directly, I found myself here after making many web searches. (and this seem to happen quite often)
I am not sure if I follow what you mean? Why the newer style does not have TOC and how does it apply here?. Do you mean we can bypass this safety feature? 😀
Also, the TOC in this motor was nowhere near brushes. It was on a plastic between the stator and rotator, pushed to a hole to near middle. I attached a photo. A small part of the white plastic holder is visible there, pointing with red arrow.
Thanks,

I was referring to a Siemens branded motor Evren. What make of motor have you got there, FHP maybe?

Is the TOC17 still available from Qualtex?
If not I may have a spare one Evren.

Hi there!
Sorry for the very much delayed response. Because the machine was my friend’s friend’s machine, I was not in real hurry. I found a TOC and installed to the machine, but I was not there to test it. I just tried the test program (the machine enters to some test mode by pressing some button combinations at startup) and the motor was turning fine.
But after few months later, I think they put the machine in place to make an actual run and I heard that it was just jumping around like crazy and they had to sit on it so it wont get out of the bathroom 🙂
I guess there was some other problem with the machine. At least we didn’t go and get a replacement motor. But I am not really interested in diagnosing it further neither the owner cares ( apparently buying is better than trying to fix ).
In either case, thank you for all the responses. The ukwhitegoods forum is one of the best forums I have ever been to, in the whole internet.

I guess ladies will have no problem sitting on the machine to control its vibes. But ultimately a replacement the best option if they tire of its tantrums.
Thanks for the update Evren 😉
