ParticipantHi All,
I’m after some guidance/help regards my Hotpoint Ultima WT960G washing machine. Bearings have finally gone at 5yrs of very heavy use, looked at a replacement machine but decided to repair existing as other than the noise from the bearings it’s in good working condition. I’ve stripped and removed the drum, spider and old bearings, fitted the smaller outer bearing no problem but after fitting the larger 35mm inner bearing it appears that the bearing is too deep/tall for the sleeve as it doesn’t leave enough room to knock the water seal fully in place by about 3mm. As I’ve had to wait over 3 weeks for the parts to arrive I quite honestly cannot remember if the old one was like this or not. Also, in all the videos and images I’ve seen online the small water drain hole in the sleeve of the rear tub sits just above the inner bearing in line where the water seal would fit – on mine the water drain hole is on the inner side of the shaft so the bearing when fitted completely covers it – is this correct please as by my reckoning this seems plain wrong ? Any guidance on this would be very helpful before I have to shell out on a new rear tub, as calling Hotpoint to query this was a complete waste of time. Cheers, Ian.

You haven’t knocked the main bearing in far enough.;)

Hi iadom, thanks for the reply. I thought the same, even thought I may have some dirt trapped behind it stopping it seating properly so I knocked the new one back out to check and I measured it and the bearing with seal is 3mm deeper than the depth of the sleeve.
Also the position of the drain hole is bugging me as the bearing covers it, in all the other images I’ve seen of it the hole sits above the bearing where the seal would sit. Here’s a picture of my sleeve.
Not sure whether to order another bearing kit to try…

Can you put the old and new bearing side by side and take a pic? Also if possible put the new bearing back in and take a picture, we should be able to tell if it is in far enough to accept the seal.

Hi, I wish I could but the old ones fell apart and went straight in the bin when I dismantled it. Only thing I can tell you is the part code of the new ones are C00202418 which are the 35mm kit.
I always have this sort of luck 😀

Pop the bearing back in and post a pic, the thin outer metal edge on the new seal does not fit absolutely flush with the top of the aperture.

I can refit again tomorrow after work and also fit seal and post that pic too if it helps ?

Good morning, that looks perfect, gently tap the seal into place as far as it will go, should be fine. 8)

Hi – blimey, you start early 😀
Thanks again , I’ll need to order another new bearing before fitting the seal as I damaged it when removing it.
Other than that do you think it will be okay with that water drain hole blocked by the bearing ? There again I guess it lasted 5yrs on the first set okay …

TBH some machines don’t even have a drain hole, the quality of the water seal is paramount, once that is breached any drain hole is only putting off the inevitable. 😉
Some of the old Hotpoint 1800/9500 series had two drain holes but still suffered bearing failure. 🙂
