ParticipantHi all, new to this forum so hello!
I have a 6 year old Kelvinator KHBF336HWG Fridge Freezer with auto defrost Fridge.
A few days ago I noticed my little blue egg thingy that tells me my fridge is cold was a very pale blue so I turned up the thermostat. That didn’t help. The freezer appears to be working normally though. Then I noticed the drain hole was blocked and there was some water under the crisper baskets. So we have emptied the fridge freezer, and defrosted it outside in the warm weather. Cleaned out the hole and the drain pipe. I turned the FF back on and left over night, putting water in an ice tray in the freezer. This morning the blue egg was a very dark blue and the water in the freezer had frozen. So, I put a carton of milk inside to test it. 2 hours later I hoped to have cold milk but nope, the egg had gone pale blue! I turned up the thermostat and left it another 2 hours but no the egg is still pale blue. There is a thin layer of frost towards the top of back wall but it has always done that and it defrosts occasionally. Hubby is going to test the thermostat when he gets home later but other than that, is it dead? I really appreciate any advice anyone can offer, thanks in advance

It depends on just how cold the two are.
From experience on a normal Candy or Kelvinator, the freezer will get the gas first so that it’s chilling at maximum in the freezer section then that goes up into the fridge and cools it.
So, it could equally be a compressor or refrigerant problem because, although the freezer may be cold enough to freeze water which will happen just a little under 0?C, it may well not be getting cold enough to safely store frozen food. If that’s the case I would doubt the thermostat being faulty as it only really has two positions, on or off based on the temperature sensed.
I can’t find any tech info on that model though. 🙁

Thanks for your input.
All the food in the freezer was still completely frozen before we removed it to defrost. I have put some bread rolls in there about an hour before we emptied it and they were frozen solid. Does that help in anyway?

It doesn’t really help, no.
You’d need to know the actual temperatures. To a user food seems “frozen” at anything up to about -10?C, sometimes higher but that’s nowhere even close to where it should be.
