ParticipantIf anyone asks you to do one of these, my advice is refuse the job point blank.
However, now that I have the new seal (£5) and have removed the old one with ease, does anybody know the right way to fit the new one?
The stainless steel of the inner door is crimped over about 1/4″ of the seal’s edge at intervals of about 1″.
I struggled for an hour or so on Friday but got nowhere and said I would return after I had searched through my tool boxes at home to find something suitable to do the job.
I think I will probably have to temporarily clamp the seal in place using a bit of baton and some G clamps whilst I use a modified pair of pliers to re-crimp it.
The lady who owns it told me a friend of hers has exactly the same dishwasher (on the inside, not the control panel etc.) and hers is a “Zanussi”!
Despite it being only 2? 4? years old, I have already had to fit a new door interlock and re-wire the door on this beautiful piece of engineering excellence and now that the customer thinks she has got a Zanussi for the price of a Matsui, and has recently had all new kitchen doors fitted she is not going to be very happy if I have to tell her to hire a skip.

Hi Mike
Managed to do one of these a couple of weeks ago after spending a couple of hours and two badly cut fingers due to the sharp edges I had to give up and return a week later to complete the job, after opening up the crimp I was able to slide the new seal in place but must admit after crimping along the edge with a pair of pliers the bottom of the door didn’t look very nice but the customer accepted it. I must have spent 3 hours on this job in total and would never do another.
I see on Connect that a new inner door is listed but don’t know and doubt that the seal is already fitted.Good Luck

Funny thing is I had a look online before buying the seal and found one or two reviews from people who’d bought the part before. Most said it was easy / fairly easy. One said it was very difficult and they had to take the door off. I didn’t set too much store by that last one; thought he must have made a mistake.
Just now I looked again online, couldn’t find the ones I found before but Espares have quite an amusing three reviews:

When on just replace screws (I took four off but only managed to get 2 back on). All working ok just need to find seal for around rest of door now!Quite pleased as am 60 year old female novice.
😯 They are tough up there in Iadom land!
Makes you wonder about these reviews 👿 .
The other two were much more believable.

Well, I failed on this one. I spent the three hours in total but could not manage to get the seal to stay in place. So another Matsui probably returns to China to be recycled into some toxic waste and another dishwasher. I’m holding my breath hoping they do better with the re-incarnation.

Hi,
Those reviews are pure fantasy either written by espares hoping to sell more parts or by delusional customers who wrongly think they have fitted the part correctly.
I’ve had the misfortune of doing a couple of these now and it is indeed a horrible, horrible part to fit.
Remove door, and turn upside down to get good access, clean old muck well from inside lip, open the metal lip up slightly, apply loads of debour to seal and slide slowly from one side on to the lip. When on Crimp with pliers to squash seal to metal lip.
The trouble seems to be if the metal lip is open too much the seal just falls off when halfway on but if its too tight you cant slide it on.Best part of two hours including reassembling door, hinges etc.
Make sure you charge accordingly for this repair!

Yes, indeed. Also if you’re using pliers to do the crimping, the main part of the seal gets right in your way. I noticed the original had holes in the part of the seal above the original crimps. I think they must have a machine which “fires” a row of punches along the length, going through part of the rubber to hit the flange just right. Probably gets through 30 doors a minute. Faster than screws or rivets so saves money on time as well as materials. Then there’s the advantage that it’s 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} likely to end up scrapped if it starts to leak after a year or two. It’s a brilliant business model.
