KeymasterFor the last couple of weeks the door has been playing up, when setting the wash cycle and i go to close the door it will not ‘click’ into place, the door just springs out. We usually get around this by leaving it for a while (normally turning the damn thing off/on/off etc) and after a hour or so it closes OK again. Sadly this seems not to work anymore, does anyone have any ideas?

Normally if the door is springing back open it is a hinge related problem making the tension too high for the latch to keep the door closed.
Also take a look at the door seal and make sure it hasn’t moved or restricting the door from closing.

It could also mean the Door Latch Unit (Part No: C00085357) is playing up and may need replacing :con:

Not to sure the tension is too high for the latch to keep the door closed, mainly due to the fact that the door has closed ‘easily/smoothly’ once we had left it for a while turned off/on. It just seems to fix itself when left for a while, though last night/today it does not seem to want to play.

As long as there is no excessive resisitance when you try and close the door, it’s probably the part Martin refered to in that case.
At around £6 not an expensive part either 😀
If you need someone to fit it for you, have look at repairs@ and the directories, someone here should be able to assist.

Anway had a look at repairs@ and sent them my details, once again many thanks.

Sorry to be the harbinger of doom siz…do you have young kids?…i.e. of the age that stand on the open door to reach the worktop?
In almost every case i’ve come accross where the door doesn’t appear to hold shut it’s as Dave points out, the hinges are the problem, usually bent by excessive weight being placed on the open door….easy to check….open the door fully and it should sit in a horizontal position. If it appears to open beyond that then they are bent.
If not too bad then new hinges will sort it but very bad cases will mean distortion to the door and drum which effectively means a new appliance.Clive

Don’t scare me Clive, as I do have a young ‘un. Though I have checked the door and it sits horizontally, and definately not beyond. So I’m hoping that I can rule that out!

The final test is a matter of ‘feel’…if the door closes without any major significant increase of pressure required for the last half inch or so then it has to be the door latch at fault 🙂

We are having the same problem, ie door does not catch and therefore runs with door not fully shut. Have taken it to pieces and it appears the piece of plastic that holds the spring has snapped. Any idea where we can get the said part from?
Thank you!March 2, 2005 at 3:47 pm #124250Dave_Conway

Part number (as previous) is Part No: C00085357 at £9.83 inc VAT and delivery.
If you’d like one ordered and sent, drop an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and I’ll advise further (copy/paste this post in please).
