ParticipantHi,
This machine E Nr. WAE32464 GB/01 FD 8603 700260
has started to lose power. During a cycle it stops, the LED screen goes dark and the door lock unlocks, allowing the door to be opened even when there is water in the drum.
After a while it tends to come back on, remembering where it was in the cycle and goes on for a bit or even completes the cycle. Sometimes it washes straight through but this has become rare.
If I switch the machine off at the mains, wait half an hour and switch back on it will come back on and continue with the cycle.
The filter is clear and otherwise, the machine is in good order. It does not get a great deal of use and even though it is 6 years old I doubt it has run more than 200 cycles from new.
Any suggestions?
I have another query, if I may. Being ecologically minded we collect roof water in a butt, mostly for watering the garden.
It is quite clear and at this time of the year warm. Being economically minded too we have been filling a 10 litre watering can with this water and pouring it, (through a sieve), in through the door at the start of a wash. Is this OK or may it do any harm?
Many thanks.

Do look closely at the plugtop and wall socket as it sounds like a bad mains connection to me.

Rainwater is pretty yucky stuff to put into a washing machine. I’d give that idea a miss if I were you and water the plants and veggies with it instead. To really save the planet head down to the waters edge with a lump of carbolic and beat your washing against a rock……much more satisfying! 😉

Martin,
Many thanks for your reply. The first thing I did was check the fuse on the plug and it was OK. It was connected to a connector block with other appliances running off it. I have since connected it directly to a wall socket and totally disconnect it from the mains when not in use. Still the same problem however plugged in. There is no strain on the cable to cause an obvious bad connection.
Oddly, when it is playing up, the door unlocks, which I don’t think it would do if there was just a simple power failure.
Thanks.

Martin,
Any other ideas? This machine is still arbitrarily switching on and off but sometimes gets to the end of a cycle by itself.
I recall that it first started malfunctioning after a period in the winter when I had the water turned off.
Many thanks.

Hi, although the machine sometimes will work perfectly, this is now rare and the cutting out is happening very frequently and is getting worse.
I wonder if some capacitor is involved because after it cuts out and the screen goes black, if I switch off at the mains, after a few minutes, the door lock clicks unlocked and then if I switch it back on at the mains she starts up again.
Thanks.
