ParticipantHi all,
nice that this forum exists… i’ve been trying to find some info regarding the fault we have with the above mentioned LG washer dryer.
recently, the machine has become increasingly noisy when on a fast spin cycle. so much so you can’t have a conversation in the same room as its so noisy. definately something wrong with it.
I’ve done a laymans diagnosis on the machine. when rotating the drum by hand it feels clunky and there a definate noise and squeak. this has lead me to beleive the fault is caused by the bearings.
what sort of movement should i expect from the inner drum… obivously a smooth rotational movement, but ours lifts about an inch if you stick a finger between inner and outer drum (hope that makes sense). is this another sign of kaput bearings?
any help will be greatfully received.
Thanks
Eoghan

Yup, the bearings are shot. They may even be collapsed, which isn’t good and the more you run it like that, the worse it gets.

Thanks Kwatt, as i had thought. so next question. the replacement of the bearings? are they removable and replaced with a bearing kit, or do i need to replace the back half of the outer drum? is it worth carrying out the work at all. if we have to call out an engineer to do the work, would we be better off just getting a new one due to the costs involved?
thanks again.

The bearings are replaceable in that machine and not that expensive, they are here:

I would also suggest a new one tub seal, here:

As you don’t want to have to strip it back down to replace that.
I’ve not done an LG one but from what I can see it appears to be one of the easier ones to do but it is still a fair bit of work. If you’re not that sure I’d think it might be better to get a pro in.

Hi K,
thanks for the links. that seems to make life a little easier. are service manuals available for these devices?

I’m afraid not that we are allowed to get to and, if we could, share.
All manufacturers get a bit huffy about that in case someone does something stupid then blames them for it. Culture we live in I guess.
