ParticipantHas anyone tried the Aldi own brand detergents before and are they as good as the top brands such as Ariel?
Secondly do own brands look after your machine like the premium brands?
Thanks
Matt

No, seem to be prone to over foaming but that could be down to the user.
Cleaning I haven’t tested but I would fully expect inferior results.

No.

Iv also found they stick in the dispenser, instead of washing though it tends to turn into a congealed lump

My wife and I are halfway through a box of Almat colour tabs and the wash results are just fine! We have a water softener and no issues with over foaming either. Their dishwasher tabs are pretty good too, bloody sight cheaper that’s for sure. Works for me. 😀

Something wrong with your dishwasher then, my Bosch has no such issues. 😉
P.S Aldi tabs came out top of the Which? ‘Best Buys’ list recently. 😀

I do find that a lot of the corroded drum supports and gunged up machines in this area are using cheap, own brand detergents, Almat liquid in particular seems really good a rotting the drum spiders.
But I am not complaining, gives me plenty of work. 8)

That is truly excellent news. We should do a survey entitled “What grot creates the the best rot?” 💡
That’s one vote so far for Aldi’s Almat Liquitabs, I’m voting for Ecover……. 😀

The thing that puts me off of powder detergent is the fillers i.e. sodium sulphate. You can easily test this by taking a teaspoon of powder detergent and drop it in a jar of water. You can see the residue settle to the bottom of the jar. That’s why I only like liquids as no filer and pure cleaning agents. I run a 60C weekly and add oxygen based bleach and never had a problem with build up.
I only currently use Ariel Colour liquid but only post this because I wondered if I would get the same results by using a cheaper product but looks like the own brands are best avoided then.

No bleach in any liquid, so no effective bacteria killer. 😉

True but you can add Ecover laundry bleach or ace which will give anti bacterial protection won’t it?
On the subject of detergents, be honest, do manufacturers recommend too much detergent?

That is wide open to debate I’m sure. The fact remains that many that are concerned about their household budget will choose the far cheaper own brand to the over price inflated market leaders such as Lever Bros and P&G. Often the end results are the same.
Kellogg’s produce their own corn flakes but many supermarkets source a credible alternative at a fraction of the price. Faced with a bowl of each I would challenge anyone to know the difference!

I was talking about the Aldi washing powder and its the 10 or so customers Iv been to who assume their dispenser is faulty and it turns out its the powder.
Others wash through fine.

Oh OK, I haven’t tried the separate powder version. It comes in a big box @ only £2.50 (IIRC?) So next time we venture to Newbury I will buy some and check it out. My Bosch dispenser operates like the proverbial niagra falls so I will be well surprised if any powder is left in the tray under that deluge, but we shall see. 😉
