    Make: AEG
    Model Number: Lavamat W 1250 Electronic (PNC 914 002 597 00)
    Serial Number: 50959031

I am hoping someone out there will be able to help diagnose the problem I have with a 7 year old AEG washing machine that has had a hard life with 2 or 3 wash cycles per day.

At first there was a slight gravelly/sandy noise when the drum was rotating – this lasted about a day – then the next day the machine would go straight to the end of the cycle before finishing or even draining the water. I checked the machine without a load in it and it seemed to work fine – filling, draining, rotating and spinning etc. Then when I put a half load the same problem as before occurred. The gravelly/sandy noise has stopped but this has been replaced with a slight mid-pitched hum as if the machine is stuck waiting for the next instruction that doesn’t want to come. Any help diagnosing the problem and recommending a solution would be much appreciated. I will take full responsibility if any proposed replacement parts do not solve the problem. 😕

The motor brushes have worn down and only just making contact in order the drum rotates. Put any load in and it won’t. Solution = Replace motor brushes. 😀

That being the case, from the service info, it should an FHP motor that’s in that model and therefore it should be carbon brushes like these that are needed:

    Do check before ordering though.

Thank you Martin and Kwatt for your replies! I removed the carbon and one was almost completely worn out. I have ordered replacements and will post a note to confirm whether or not they worked.

Many thanks again for your replies!
