ParticipantSamsung RSA1WTMH fridge freezer cooling fan.
Customers Samsung fridge/freezer is running with frozen food in the compartment with a dialled in temp of minus 20 degrees and measured the same but at the top there is one hell of a racket sounding like a coffee grinder running behind the top light/vent area?
Is that the fan unit frozen up with ice and the blades hitting it or a new fan needed as with this heat wave the customer cannot empty out the frozen food yet? Can you just thaw out the system and quickly turn it back on or is there a mod or update to solve this problem.
The noise would drive me nuts in my kitchen at night while trying to sleep.
Any knowledge on this one chaps. Can he get away with a quick thaw out for the time being?FlyingBrick

If you remove the top cover, you will probably find the polystyrene backing to it has blown, making frozen drops of water/polysytrene catch on the fan blade- temp fix by slicing affected lumps away, and easy job to replace cover ( there are few different versions of cover, so make sure you get full model and serial number)

Hi
More likely that the defrost connection has come out of the plug socket,this was a common problem on the rsa1 models.Also check that the defrost heater is ok.

that did used to be a problem, however if the evap was iced up, it is unlikely the temperature would be ok in fridge;
either way, easy fixJuly 18, 2013 at 8:53 am #397794FlyingBrick

Thanks chaps will go and have a look when he has emptied out his freezer and check the state of the fan unit at the top of the freezer.
The side by side Samsung actualy did measure spot on minus 20* C which was set using my thermocouple. So there seems to be no issue on the LHS of the unit.Will check plug connections etc when I get round there.
Does the top light/cover just pull ot with the screws taken out?

The back panel in the freezer is in 2 pieces; if you take the screws out of the top section, it is also “clipped” in along the edges ( look along the edge for arrow heads, gently lever out from there)..depending on the version, there may be screws behind the light diffuser. It will be obvious straight away if it is blown polystyrene. If not, you will then need to dismantle further panels and fan etc, but still easy enough to do.
Good luckJuly 18, 2013 at 7:34 pm #397796FlyingBrick

When they get back from their hols I will take the plastic housing off and see what is causing all the noise at the top.
