ParticipantI’m a member of an electrical forum and a post appeared re the Hotpoint dishwashers, a guy trying to get info on the relay
The bloke seems a bit OTT and seemed to not like the responses
Not sure if he has been here
Iv linked the post

I don’t think he’s been on here or, not that I’m aware of.
Let’s just say that he probably kinda got it with the UK voltage thing.
As I understand it, UK mains voltage is supposed to now conform to some EU standard to which most, if not all products are designed to.
Trouble is, UK voltage doesn’t and, from what I picked up, some of the suppliers could be facing hefty fines over it. Of course the supply companies won’t want to advertise the fact as it opens them up to claims for blown whatever’s and I would think claims from manufacturers forced to recall, replace or repair due to an irregular supply.
I’m far from expert in the area and only picked up snippets of the whole thing but I got the sense that it’s a very serious problem with a lot of things and quite possibly the reason for the Bosch recall if not others.
The point being that, if this is the case, it could be that it isn’t actually Hotpoint that’s at fault. I know we like to blame them for a lot of things but they could well be innocent and I find it incomprehensible that Indesit would not comply to the relevant standard. The thing might be a pile of poo engineering wise but is extremely unlikely not to comply with EU safety legislation IMO.
It is a bit OTT that, even when the guy sorta alludes to that being a possibility he still goes at Hotpoint instead of finding out the actual cause, then going on his little crusade.

Funny that the reason I was on that forum was I’m having problems with my solar PV shutting down due to high grid voltage. Iv been getting between 254v and 262v in the last few weeks and the inverter shuts down above 256.
Iv had the dno out this week and their allowed 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} over 230 giving 253 max
I Agree with what you say, the fact it takes a number of years and that its not happening to every one would lead you to think a higher grid voltage causing the heater to draw more.
Thought I would post about him as he caused quite a stir in a very short period of time.
I also had a look over his site, it does seem to suggest he has it for Hotpoint especially.

Having read his posts he came across as one of those arm chair experts, the belief your greater than the sum of your mass is a dangerous thought.
What he needs to understand l dont think he’d ever accept, which means he will never achieve anything other than a polite fcuk off.

Funny I was out to a hotpoint FDW20 dishwasher that was not heating last week and after testing the heater and ringing the wires up to the pcb I noticed that the pcb heater wires had been spliced and connections on the pcb had been resoldered, The customer said that she had a visit from hotpoint earlier in the year for a recall repair and low and behold it had a HF3FD relay sat next to a larger Blue rectangular looking component that had clearly been resoldered and possibly replaced.
I quoted to replace the PCB and she knew that Hotpoint had worked on the PCB because the Engineer had told her at the time, so she rang them up as I was putting the thing back together and she even told them that I had looked at it and what the fault was, Anyway Hotpoint denied that the recall was related and tried to sign her up to a monthly warranty which she refused. So I left the job having been asked to order the pcb and fit it but low and behold two hours later she rang me on my mobile and said that Hotpoint had been in touch and intended to repair the dishwasher FREE OF CHARGE.
I smelled a rat on Hotpoints part and secretly thought to myself that if the recall was a heating safety recall then Hotpoint may have added a fast electronic fuse or something that may now be causing them problems.maybe too safe 🙂July 21, 2013 at 12:49 pm #397975madangler1

HP are replacing the whole pcb with a brand new modified version that has a block connector to the board rather than the two separate spade connectors for the heater, the ends on the harness are cut off and crimped to the new one with 2 x blue and 1 x red crimps.
No soldering is being performed on existing boards by hotpoint, their should also not be any soldering as they have pulled back all the irons.
If its anything other than this I’d would suggest some one else has been messing about with it, they are taking this part very seriously and engineers are not o deviate from the modification in any way. Stackable offence I believe.
The fire problem is related to these connectors I believe.
