Hi all
CNESS 3866 service# 0974506-03
In short the freezer has gone AWOL and is not getting cold enough -4 at best, if I plug and unplug I can get either a flashing — in the freezer display or a flashing NA with alarm beeping.
I have taken evaporator cover off and was greeted by lots of thick ice ( fan was clear and free to spin) and a blocked drain hole so defrosted, alas problem is still present.
I have seen and heard the freezer fan working but it does not seem to be working all the time when door is closed.
If I turn off and turn back on I can hear a faint buzzing coming from the lower back and then a click that sounds like a thermal cut out tripping, not sure if this is anything relevant or not.
Fridge seems to be working ok.

You can’t turn a fridge off and on straight away. The compressor physically can’t start and so the click you’re hearing is the safety device kicking in. Once power is taken away from the compressor, it needs a good few minutes before it can start again.
The n a you see in the display is the unit telling you that there’s been a power interruption. On seeing this, if you press the alarm button, the display will display the highest temperature that the freezer got to during the time that the power was off. Pressing the alarm button once more will put the appliance back in to run mode.
On to your problem, the freezer fan won’t run all the time, just as and when the sensor tells it to. Did you fully defrost the unit? How did you do this?

Freezer evaporator was defrosted with help from a small fan heater over an hour or so until all ice/water including plug blocking drain hole was gone.
When turned back on temp was reported as 22 then returned to flashing — and still is.
I can’t hear the fan start and wonder whether the flashing — relates to a failed fan?

By flashing, do you mean two small lines in the temperature display window?
If it’s that, then that means the temperature in the freezer is well below its readable scale.
There is no error code for a failed fan.
I’d suggest that you haven’t defrosted the evaporator fully. Id turn off and leave the door open for 24 hrs.
Be aware though that in doing this the problem may well re-appear and you may only be treating the symptom and not the fault. If there’s a problem on the defrost circuit causing the evaporator to over ice, then it will come back.Re: Liebherr 3866 freezer problem
Yes 2 small flashing lines in the freezer temp display window.
I’m confident the cavity and evaporator were well and truly defrosted as everything was warm to the touch and all ice had melted and all water had evaporated, in short everything was bone dry.
I can’t see that the freezer could possibly be below it’s readable scale after that treatment!
I left it another half an hour to cool down before plugging back in.
I have still not heard the fan kick in, although it definitely was working yesterday.Re: Liebherr 3866 freezer problem
hello, either you misunderstand me, or i’m not explaining myself too well.
the two lines in the display simply mean that the temperature in the freezer isn’t at a level that can be registered.
it sounds like its engineer time for you, because you’re still experiencing problems.
if it was just the fan then the freezer should read anywhere between -8 and -12. the fact that the fan isn’t running and it’s not registering a temperature could be due to a number of things – the fan itself, the pcb, a refrigeration system fault, or a sensor.Re: Liebherr 3866 freezer problem

Well this morning was a nice surprise, overnight the 2 flashing lines had turned into a nice to the eye -25 🙂I have lowered the temp to -20 and all seems good, plus I now hear the fan kick in when I shut the door!
Fingers crossed it’s back to normal, although I’d still like to know what was wrong in the first place, but if it stays as is I wont complain 🙂
Many thanks for your input Eldar59 and I’ll be back if things change, probably with an engineers report and bill lol.
