ParticipantFirstly, thanks for any advice.
I haven’t found the serial number on my double oven range but have matched it to an image search. It appears to be a Rosieres Paul Bocuse 440 DB. The left oven (as you look at it) has lost heat. I can access top element, how is the bottom element removed. I have to check both. Is continuity a good enough test? If both elements are good, how is the thermostat dial removed. I have nightmares about having to move the oven so hope that everything can be done in situ. Once again thanks – DaveJuly 30, 2013 at 2:32 pm #398358kwatt

I hate to say it but, to do the lower element I think the cooker has to come out as I think access is from the back. I could be wrong as it’s years since I’ve work on a Bocuse cooker but I don’t think I am.
The element should be this one if you need it…. http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/93696821 … en-element

Thanks for that. It’s not the end of the world but just a bit more work as I have to cut silicone side beads and carefully pull out between units and clamber around as there’s not much space. How do I check element failure versus thermostat failure as my original q. Thanks. D

Well…
If the oven element is dead then there will be no heat form the bottom and usually I just put the oven on, stick my paw against the lower panel and if it gets hot fast, the element is okay. 😉
Not exactly a moment of triumph for the H&S brigade but, it works.
Failing that, a simple continuity check is usually adequate.
If there’s no heat then that’s the issue and that’s more probable than the stat failing because it’s a simple on or off switch essentially, they’re dumb, it’s either on or its off. When they fail they will fail on or fail off, you get all or nothing.
So, if you have partial heat I’d suspect an element long before I went taking the fascia apart to get to the thermostat because, it’s not a lot of fun doing that.

Thanks for that K – yep checked oven and it’s the base element, why couldn’t it be the easy to replace top one? Any way I now need to find out how to replace it. Will it be apparent once I move the oven away from the wall and have access to the back? Cheers D

Should be obvious yes.
But do check the model number on the rating plate before ordering as they all look the same but, they are not the same.

Sure thanks for your help. I presume the rating plate will be on the back of the cooker as it’s not on the front or on any faces or indeed inside the ovens/drawers.

Normally not but may be, usually it’s on one of the oven doors or in one of the drawers, normally in a drawer somewhere.

How French in inconsistency! Thanks I’ll muddle through now. Will not order until I can get to rating plate.
