We have a Candy CC217 which used to make a scarpping noise when in reverse tumble.
Now it makes the scrapping noise when tumbling in both driections.

The scraping noise you refer to is more than likely the rear bearing..
Power off before proceeding!
If you look at the rear of the machine inline with the centre if the drum, there should be a cover over the bearing assembly, remove this and check for any signs of a black dust,and check the position of the shaft.
You will probably find that the shadt has worn its way through the bearing and is now resting on the metal bearing housing, or worse still the machine casing…not to difficult a job to replace…
