ParticipantHere in the USA they are called ‘technicians’ and we had a guy call from GE to fix the oven. After doing a self clean cycle the cooling fan went AWOL making a hell of a racket. We called GE this morning and Dan (the repairman) called at 3pm, took the oven out and sorted it…………. Check out the generic multi height oven table……

Have you got nothing better to do on holiday than badger the poor GE repair dude? 😉
(I sorted the images for you BTW)

Ha Ha, so not only has the “technician” got to contend with working on a five foot oven but he’s got Martin peering over his shoulder asking him loads of questions, taking photo’s and presumably telling him loads of stories about his life as a “technician” in the UK.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the final straw for Dan and he’s now packed the job in. 😉

I have plenty of good things to do but today I had to stay home between 1 & 5 for him to show up. He seemed more relaxed and talkative after he diagnosed the problem for himself in spite of my intervention.
So now the oven is fixed we are off to the movies to see Red 2 then eat at a Cuban restaurant down town…… Still 87degs outside right now….. 😀

Europe call there appliance repairers “technicians” too.
Due to the fact that an appliance repairer you would be over qualified and underpaid if you had an Engineering qualification.
That maybe changing.;)
Nice photos though. Maybe you should break all the appliances and do a full survey.

Well the GE guy called back today as promised and replaced the fan on the oven. An hour before he called I got an automated message from General Electric that said : “This is a courtesy call from the General Electric Service Department. Our technician is on his way and will be at your house within 60 minutes, please be sure to lock all animals away from the work and access areas, thank you!”
(I’ve already guessed what Mark and Ken will say to that, but go ahead anyway 😉 )

You may (or may not) be interested to learn that most dishwashers here in the USA are constructed with one piece polypropylene tubs and inner door panels. The photo below is of a brand new GE integrated dishwasher I’m about to connect up……

Looks as though access underneath is quite good?

Are you branching out or moving there permanently 😆Busmans holiday for darn sure. My nephew is a builder in Lincoln NE and currently has 19 new houses on the go right now. I’ve been helping one of his sparks put in dishwashers and microwaves. It was 94 degs out there yesterday and the 3 houses we did only had first fit electrics so the air conditioners weren’t able to be switched on so it was hard sweaty work. The dishwashers were simple to hook up but the microwaves were heavy to lift and suspend over the countertops.
My nephew buys all GE stuff except washers and dryers which are LG. Its cooler and cloudy today and only 82. This afternoon I’m helping his heating engineer hook up the geo-thermal heating unit before the Sheetrock guys come in….all good fun!
