AEG Lavamat 16800 spin problem

Hi everyone, I have a spin problem on my AEG machine – I’ve read the other threads on this, but my problem is different. The machine will go through a wash cycle but when it gets to ‘spin time’ the drum moves only slightly (fraction of a turn) and then stops (even when there is not a full load). If I manually set the machine to spin, it will spin fine. Any ideas gratefully received. Oh, and for ages now I get an E40 code when I turn it on after closing the door. Turning it off and on again usually sorts it though. Machine is about 8 years old but is in a holiday property so has had very little use. Many thanks in advance.
