ParticipantTrying to change the belt on my Hotpoint CTD80P as the previous one has snapped.
I’m following this video on YouTube and instead of a jubilee clip holding the recirculating fan on, there was a clamp, similar to one you would find on a car or a bike to hold fuel hoses on. The fan is now resting on the spindle but it isn’t coming off. I have tried prising apart the parts on the spindle but to no avail. I have tried twisting, pulling etc but it won’t come off.
Am I missing something? Or is there just a technique? Or is it being stubborn? I am going to have a look with some WD-40 later to free it up a bit potentially as the spindle does have some surface corrosion present.
Thanks in advance!

They normally just wiggle off.

That’s the problem with a lot of online videos, this fan has never been fitted with a jubilee clip during manufacture. 😉
The shaft is splined in most cases, prise the fan off from the back.

I’ve had one that I struggled to get off. I warmed the plastic fan up with a hair dryer and eventually the fan came off

Christ, bit like that is it.
Okay, I’m gonna give it some pushing then, here’s hoping!
Cheers for your help!

This is getting seriously stupid. There is no way I can get at it from the back but I’ve prised the parts as much as I can, not happening. I’ve put a long screwdriver right through and pulled that to give me more leverage, won’t move a mm. I’ve tried to push it off the spline from above.
Dunno what to do. I’ve soaked it in WD-40 but I’m out of ideas. Annoyed cos I hate being defeated!

If its the fan next to the belt get a long screwdriver and lay it along the motor pushing against the back of the fan, tap gently with hammer rotating it every few taps.
It will come off that way t, if the spindle rusts a bit they can stick and be very tight.
Don’t hit it to hard as you will go through it.

Unfortunately there was no space to get at it from behind. I tried everything and told the mother I was gonna have to destroy it to get it off.
I was going to saw it off but decided to chisel all the way down one side of the splits. It ended up coming off. The splines are full of crap and the whole lot has rusted all together, no wonder why it was stuck! Gonna still try and re use it and keep costs low as it appears someone in the house has stood on or crushed the heating element, all of the rods are cracked! Anywhere I can get it cheaper than £45?
Cheers for all the advice!

Sorry to hear of the trouble your having HD7, yet another job best left for the professionals, sounds like you now need a new element and a fan, getting expensive now.
Time for damage limitation try the repairs link

There was genuinely no way a professional would have been able to get that fan off any other way than I did. I’ve worked on bikes and cars for years and come across many stubborn things but this wasn’t coming off, believe. I had a few ‘handy men’ in the family have a look and nobody could get it off. I was more worried the spindle was gonna come out of the motor thats how hard we pulled at it! We tried everything!
Also, with the element it appears someones knocked it.

All done and put back together. Everything spins smoothly. Christ it was hard to get the belt on!
Next wash will tell if the heaters are still working or not, my guess is not!
