    I have a 10yr old whirlpool ARC 3030 model no.8501 303 15000.
I keep a thermometer on the lower shelf to keep an eye on the temperature. The temperature varies between 2 and 9 degrees.I know that mechanical thermostats are poor at the best of times but does this temperature variation mean the thermostat is faulty? The compressor seems to stay on for about one hour and then off for one around one hour.Should it cycle more often?

No, not faulty as it’s probably giving a mean temperature of about 5?C, which is more or less correct.

Compressor cycling also sounds about right for a non frost free fridge or fridge freezer.
